Theo spent the week tracing Mercer debt. They met in crowded rooms and did not kiss again. The restraint was chosen, which made it different from absence.

Priya called a members' vote on the phased repair plan. Nora expected loyalty and received questions: childcare, accessible toilets, fair wages, who would carry losses, whether Daniel could regain control.

"I don't know yet," Nora said more than once.

The cooperative approved the plan by four votes.

Afterward Priya admitted she had considered standing against Nora as chair.

"You should," Nora said. "If this only works when everyone trusts me, it doesn't work."

That evening Theo arrived with an email chain proving Malcolm had prepared two Lantern designs: demolition for the council and a luxury-preservation scheme for private investors.

Theo's name appeared on the second design.
