Mara kept her license pending a separate hearing because her notes and testimony mattered, but silence still required examination.

Ivy and Naomi signed two private custody orders. Each child received a corrected name, retained medical history, and a preservation flag preventing silent amendment. Transition specialists—not cameras—managed the days ahead.

Outside the nursery, Lena found Daniel surrendering his badge.

"You could have hidden behind the blank field," she said.

"Then the next emergency exception would look harmless."

He asked whether he could walk with her to the records office. Lena agreed. They moved side by side, leaving enough space for choice.
