Chapter 9
The Baby on the Elevator
Daniel was examining Ivy's infant when the bassinet began moving without a discharge order.
Felix had triggered a fire-service elevator and sent a forged transport update to the floor display. Mara blocked the elevator with the emergency stop while Daniel maintained the baby's oxygen line.
Lena did not chase Felix. She photographed the order screen, the untouched bedside scanner, and the transporter's badge. Security detained the crew at the loading dock.
Felix smashed a tablet before surrendering it. The local file died; its cloud audit did not.
The wipe command originated from Celeste's counsel account. The tablet also carried the original Orison Blue integration package and a schedule of placement payments.
Daniel's user ID had scanned the two bands years apart. One scan was his hurricane authorization. The second occurred while he was presenting at a conference, copied through the emergency service account.
"They used your first signature as a permanent credential," Lena said.
"I built the door."
"And now you testify to who walked through it."
The accreditation board moved its hearing forward. Celeste had six hours to prepare.
Daniel's hospital privileges were suspended five minutes later.
