Under Oath
Elias testified before he could calculate a cleaner version.
He told the probate judge that he had witnessed Mira's guardianship without meeting her, relied on a compromised firm token, and dismissed discrepancies because Hawthorne House had been a client longer than he had been alive.
"You are asking this court to trust evidence produced by your own failure," the judge said.
"No. I am asking the court to distrust me and verify the independent sources."
Dr. Shaw authenticated the backdated credential. Tomas produced the gate-log checksum. Nessa testified from the hospital while her son underwent surgery. Owen, released after an outside physician rejected the incapacity claim, preserved his swing vote.
The judge refused to cancel the gala. Lydia had structured it as a donor meeting outside direct probate control. Instead, the court issued a preservation order and required any succession result to remain provisional.
"She will call that victory," Owen said in the courthouse corridor.
"Let her," Mira replied.
Elias stood close enough that she could see where his collar had folded during the overnight hearing. "Celia still has the missing page."
"Celia wants a name after tonight. Lydia wants her disposable. Their interests have separated."
His phone displayed a message from Celia: Put Mira on the stage. I will do the rest.
Mira looked at Elias. "You don't decide whether I walk into that room."
"I know."
He offered his hand, palm up. Mira used it to step over the courthouse barrier, then released it.
At Hawthorne House, Lydia appeared live before six hundred donors.
"It is my honor," she said, "to present Mira Hawthorne, permanent trustee."
