Ch. 125 - Offending a Big Shot

Chapter 125

Offending a Big Shot

Claire Bennett curled herself into a ball, but still couldn't stop the chill spreading through her body.

In her haze, she seemed to see a familiar figure approaching.

Claire Bennett forced her eyes open and finally saw clearly who was in front of her.

Julian Sterling's handsome face filled her vision. His face was full of anxiety, and the look in his eyes as he stared at her was both frantic and furious.

Claire Bennett reached out and touched his cheek, mumbling, "I must be dreaming. I actually dreamed about Julian Sterling."

After Julian Sterling rushed to the detention center, he saw Claire Bennett unconscious. The hand she placed on his face was burning hot, like a lump of charcoal.

He immediately knew Claire Bennett had a fever.

Claire Bennett's clothes were very thin. She looked like she'd been taken away in a hurry, and that was probably how she'd gotten chilled and come down with a fever. Julian Sterling took off his suit jacket and gently draped it over her.

He reached out and touched her forehead. "Claire Bennett, wake up!"

The person in his arms showed no response. Her eyes remained tightly shut, her face flushed red, and she looked to be in pretty bad shape.

Julian Sterling's handsome face tightened as he bent down and scooped Claire Bennett up in his arms.

As if sensing a familiar presence, Claire Bennett kept burrowing into Julian Sterling's arms, seeking safety and warmth.

Julian Sterling walked straight outside.

Outside, Marcus Reed was talking to the people from the detention center, and Ruby Sterling was standing nearby too. When the two of them saw Julian Sterling coming out carrying the unconscious Claire Bennett, they immediately went up to him.

Ruby Sterling asked anxiously, "What's wrong with Claire?"

"Hospital."

After saying that, Julian Sterling didn't stop. He took the lead, carrying Claire Bennett outside, and the other two immediately followed behind.

Marcus Reed had already made his identity clear a moment ago, so no one behind them dared to stop them.

Watching the backs of the group as they left, the director wiped the cold sweat beading on his forehead.

He hadn't expected that this woman Ethan Sterling had targeted actually had such an enormous connection to Julian Sterling. And seeing Julian Sterling carrying her, their relationship seemed far from simple.

They had actually offended a big shot.

Luckily, they hadn't abused her, or else the consequences probably wouldn't have been something they could bear!

The others didn't know Julian Sterling's identity, and they were extremely curious about this man, who had appeared like a god and boldly taken her away while the director hadn't tried to stop him.

They all crowded around him and asked over one another, "That man has such a powerful presence. Who exactly is he?"

The director's face was full of apprehension, but he didn't dare say it outright and could only answer vaguely, "Anyway, he's someone you can't afford to provoke. Keep your eyes open from now on!"

"Huh? Ethan Sterling is from the Sterling family. Could someone actually be even more badass than him?"

"If it's something you shouldn't ask about, then keep your mouth shut!"

Everyone still looked confused, but the director had already turned and left, not daring to say any more.

Marcus Reed drove to the hospital as fast as he could.

Feeling that Claire Bennett in his arms was delirious, Julian Sterling's brows furrowed even tighter. At that moment, he almost had the urge to kill someone.

"Faster!" Julian Sterling said.

Marcus Reed also knew things were serious, so he sped up even more.

They reached the hospital very quickly. After an examination, they found Claire Bennett's fever had been caused by getting chilled, and the doctor put her on an IV drip.

In the VIP hospital room, Claire Bennett lay quietly on the bed.

Ruby Sterling secretly glanced at Julian Sterling and said carefully, "Bro, after Claire was arrested, she didn't ask me or you for help. She asked that man instead..."

Before she could finish speaking, a sharp edge flashed through Julian Sterling's cold eyes.

The air around them suddenly turned icy. Ruby Sterling had originally wanted to say more, but the rest of her words vanished in her mouth, and she didn't dare say them out loud.

"Marcus Reed, take Ruby Sterling home."

Ruby Sterling parted her lips, wanting to say something.

Although she was worried about Claire Bennett and wasn't very willing to go back, when she thought that tomorrow she might need to come relieve Julian Sterling and keep watch, she still obediently left with Marcus Reed.

Late at night, Claire Bennett opened her eyes, parched and dry-throated.

She stared blankly at the ceiling, her eyes filled with confusion. Sensing someone else's presence nearby, she turned her head to look.

At a glance, she saw Julian Sterling asleep, leaning back in a chair.

Under the soft light, his handsome face looked even more strikingly beautiful. The lines of his face and neck were long and smooth, forming a perfect curve.

Julian Sterling? Why was he here?

Claire Bennett caught the faint smell of disinfectant, then looked at her surroundings and instantly seemed to understand what had happened.

She must have gotten sick.

It was Julian Sterling who had bailed her out, and now they were at the hospital!

A warm current flowed through Claire Bennett's heart, and the look in her eyes as she gazed at Julian Sterling softened a little.

At that moment, she suddenly felt that whether her heart had started pounding for Julian Sterling because of being moved by him over and over again like this, or because of the good feelings that had slowly built up through their everyday interactions, she had, in the end, begun to have feelings for this person.

So why bother digging into whether she'd fallen for him because she was moved, or whether she'd truly fallen for him.

She liked Julian Sterling.

After Claire Bennett confirmed her own feelings, she suddenly thought of the fact that Julian Sterling didn't like her. To him, she was only a contract partner brought about by an accident.

She laughed at herself, and a wave of bitterness spread through her heart.

Just as Claire Bennett was spacing out, Julian Sterling seemed to sense something and opened his eyes. The first thing he did was look toward Claire Bennett.

Their eyes met, and for a moment the air fell silent.

"Julian Sterling, were you the one who bought me out?" Claire Bennett asked in a hoarse voice.

"Mm."

Hearing how hoarse her voice was, Julian Sterling stood up and went to pour her a glass of water. In the same motion, he also brought over a few pills.
