Ch. 138 - We're Moving

Chapter 138

We're Moving

It wasn't that she looked down on Marcus Reed; she was just a little amazed.

Of course Julian Sterling couldn't tell the truth, so he said casually, "Sterling Group employees get a discount on buying homes."

Claire Bennett's eyes flickered. She was now considered a Sterling Group employee too, so if she bought a Sterling Group property, could she get a discount as well?

Even though she couldn't afford one yet, if she worked hard for a while, she'd definitely be able to reach that goal. Then she and Julian Sterling could...

Wait! Claire Bennett froze, only then realizing what she was thinking!

Oh my God, she'd actually started imagining building their little home together with Julian Sterling in the future.

Claire Bennett rubbed her forehead lightly and let out a helpless sigh in her heart.

No one knew what their future would be, and there was no need for her to factor him into her plans.

Their new place was on the fifteenth floor of Parkview Heights, with an excellent view. It was a simply decorated two-bedroom with a living room, and it even had a huge terrace. It was on a completely different level from the apartment Claire Bennett had rented before.

Claire Bennett was very satisfied with the place, and it only strengthened her resolve to work hard and make money.

She saw that quite a few things had already been placed inside the apartment. They were actually items from their previous place.

Julian Sterling said, "I moved the stuff over in advance."

Claire Bennett nodded, not expecting Julian Sterling to be so thoughtful.

She took a look around the apartment, and the first thing she noticed was that there were two rooms.

Had Julian Sterling arranged for them to sleep in separate rooms?

At that thought, Claire Bennett's face instantly stiffened, and her chest felt strangely tight.

Still, she felt that it was only to be expected. They shouldn't have been squeezed together in the first place. This was what normal interaction between a contract couple should look like.

She walked over and opened the door, only to find that what came into view was a study.

Claire Bennett froze on the spot.

Julian Sterling said, "Not happy with the study? Want to renovate it?"

Hearing Julian Sterling's voice, Claire Bennett's wandering soul snapped back into place. Somewhat surprised, she asked, "This one's the study, so is the one next to it the bedroom?"

"Mm."

Looking at Julian Sterling's natural expression, Claire Bennett knew he wasn't joking. He wasn't planning to sleep separately from her?

For some reason, a bit of secret delight quietly welled up in Claire Bennett's heart.

Neither of them brought up why there was only one bedroom, as if by mutual understanding.

...

During this period, Naomi Pierce went live every day to report on how her body was recovering. She had also gone to Dr. Nolan Pierce, wanting him to forge an evaluation so Claire Bennett could receive a harsher punishment.

But Dr. Nolan Pierce said he needed to wait two days before he could get the evaluation done.

He said it would be ready before the court hearing, and Naomi Pierce still trusted that he was capable of taking care of it.

Inside the hospital room, Ethan Sterling was keeping Naomi Pierce company.

Naomi Pierce glanced at him and asked, "Ethan, the hearing is in two days. You absolutely can't let Claire Bennett manipulate you."

At those words, dissatisfaction appeared on Ethan Sterling's face.

If Claire Bennett had come to beg him or tried to manipulate him, that would've been one thing. But she looked down on him with disdain, and now she wasn't even in detention anymore. No one knew where she'd gone.

Supposedly, someone had bailed her out, but the people there kept their mouths shut about exactly who had helped her. No matter how he threatened or bribed them, they didn't dare say another word.

Could Claire Bennett have some powerful backer?

Ethan Sterling couldn't help starting to grow suspicious.

Impossible!

With Claire Bennett's lowly status, how could she possibly have attached herself to any important figure? The most impressive one could only be Sean Shaw, the eldest young master of the New York Shaw family.

If Sean Shaw hadn't found a lawyer for Claire Bennett in New York, Ethan Sterling probably still wouldn't have known about this matter.

Luckily, he had discovered that man in time and stepped in to stop him.

Sean Shaw had a fiancée, yet Claire Bennett would rather be his mistress than be Ethan Sterling's. That really left him unwilling to accept it.

He wanted to see how Claire Bennett could keep acting so tough after the verdict this time!

...

Paige Nolan had gone back on helping Claire Bennett, but she hadn't told Dr. Nolan Pierce about it, for fear that he would learn she had leaked things to Claire Bennett and come to despise her even more.

On top of that, she felt Claire Bennett had no evidence and couldn't possibly affect her in any way, so she didn't take Claire Bennett to heart.

She never could have imagined that the matter would still be exposed to Dr. Nolan Pierce by her own mother-in-law.

Paige Nolan was still at work when Dr. Nolan Pierce directly cornered her in the break room.

"I'm asking you! Did you tell someone about what I did? Will you only be satisfied once you've gotten me killed?" Dr. Nolan Pierce's face was dark as he grabbed Paige Nolan and demanded answers without the slightest courtesy.

It took Paige Nolan quite a while to react. Guiltily, she said, "I didn't... listen to me..."

"Don't even think about denying it. Mom already told me everything. She said you've already spilled all my business. If my secret gets out, I'm taking you down with me!"

After saying that, Dr. Nolan Pierce, in a rage, swept the bottle beside him onto the floor.

What he had done in the first place had been done in secret, and Paige Nolan had only found out by accident. He hadn't expected this matter to become like a blade hanging over his head, never letting him have a moment's peace, leaving him constantly afraid it would be exposed.

It was all Paige Nolan's fault, that woman!
