What business was it of hers whether they were a good match or not!

Claire Bennett had always been tough by nature, and she wasn't afraid of being pressured.

She curled her lips into a cold smile and said without the slightest politeness, "Whether Julian Sterling and I are a good match or not probably isn't for you to decide, is it? You're just Julian Sterling's aunt, not his mother. It's none of your business whether we're a good match. As long as I think we are, that's enough!"

Just now, seeing Claire Bennett's appearance, Paige Sterling had thought she was a soft, easily manipulated girl. She hadn't expected her to actually dare talk back.

Paige Sterling had held a high position for years and was used to giving orders. She couldn't stand being defied. Now that Claire Bennett hadn't given her any face at all, her lips pressed together, and a trace of displeasure surfaced in her eyes.

Very quickly, Paige Sterling regained her composure. She sneered and said, "It seems Miss Bennett really is confident. But then again... with a family like ours, so many girls shamelessly want to marry into it. I can understand that..."

Wasn't Julian Sterling just a chauffeur? His aunt was way too confident, wasn't she? She was acting so high and mighty.

Before Claire Bennett could think further, she heard Paige Sterling say again, "You used to date Ethan Sterling. With that kind of history between you, I think most women would be too ashamed to stay with Julian. It seems that in order to marry into the family, you've thrown away all sense of decency and shame."

Her words weren't harsh, but between the lines she was calling Claire Bennett shameless.

Claire Bennett's face darkened, and she shot back icily, "Mrs. Sterling, I did date Ethan Sterling, but I don't think there's anything wrong with that!"

"We dated normally, and we broke up cleanly. How does that become indecent and shameless in your eyes? Didn't you date an ex-boyfriend before you got married? When you were with your ex-boyfriend, was that also indecent and shameless?"

Claire Bennett was like a hedgehog. The moment she sensed danger, she would instinctively raise all her quills to protect herself.

Now that Paige Sterling was acting like this, of course Claire Bennett wasn't going to hold back. She was going to refute every last bit of it!
