Inexplicable Hostility
After Mother Sterling held Claire Bennett and chatted with her for a while, she wanted to go work in the kitchen. Claire felt a little bad about it and offered to help, but Mother Sterling quickly refused.
"How could we let you do that? Let Julian, that brat, do it." Mother Sterling looked at Julian Sterling and said, "What are you still standing there for? Hurry up and come help."
Normally, there were servants at the Sterling family home, so they didn't need to do anything themselves. But things were different here. If no one helped, they probably wouldn't be eating for a long time.
Julian Sterling didn't say anything more and went straight into the kitchen.
Father Sterling also hurried in to help, and outside in the living room, only Claire Bennett and Kelsey Lee were left.
Once no one from the Sterling family was around, Kelsey Lee stopped pretending altogether. Her face immediately turned cold as she asked bluntly, "So you're Julian's wife, Claire Bennett?"
Claire Bennett nodded. "Mm."
It seemed she really hadn't been mistaken just now. Julian Sterling's younger sister didn't like her very much.
A look of contempt surfaced in Kelsey Lee's eyes. She crossed her arms over her chest and said, "I don't think you're good enough for Julian. I heard the two of you are getting divorced in half a year. I think you might as well get divorced sooner. That would be better for both of you."
Mother Sterling had also told Kelsey Lee that Julian Sterling and Claire Bennett had gotten married because of an accident, and that they had signed an agreement.
Now she was bringing up the divorce directly to Claire's face, without leaving her a shred of dignity.
Claire Bennett's brows furrowed instinctively.
Maybe it was because she had seen how kind Julian Sterling's parents were, so now that this younger sister who clearly didn't like her had appeared, the contrast was too sharp, and she felt extremely upset.
But whether she and Julian Sterling got divorced or not was their private business. Even if she was Julian Sterling's younger sister, she had no right to meddle in it.
If she didn't want a divorce, then even if Julian Sterling's parents came forward to oppose it, she wouldn't necessarily listen.
She wasn't even afraid of Julian Sterling's aunt, a woman that forceful, much less some little girl with no threat to her at all.
Claire Bennett let out a cold laugh and said calmly, "First of all, it's true that you're Julian Sterling's sister, but you're only his sister. When we get divorced is our private business, not something you have any right to interfere in!"
After a pause, she continued, "I heard Julian Sterling's parents aren't in good health. If you really care about them, then you should be even less willing to bring this up."
There were indeed problems between her and Julian Sterling.
Although she had agreed to wait until the contract ended before getting divorced, that was out of consideration for his parents' health.
Now that Julian Sterling's sister had come out against them, it instead stirred up Claire's contrary streak, and instinctively made her want to fire back at her.
Kelsey Lee's face immediately went pale!
Was this woman trying to say that she was selfish and only cared about herself, without any regard for Uncle Sterling's and Aunt Sterling's health?
She had only lucked into an enormous advantage by accidentally marrying Julian. What was there for her to be so proud of!
Just then, Mother Sterling came out of the kitchen with a finished dish, breaking the awkward atmosphere between them.
Kelsey Lee didn't say anything else and went back to that innocent, adorable look.
She stood up and walked over to help Mother Sterling carry the dish to the table, praising it at the same time. "Wow, this looks so good. I bet it tastes great too. I'm really in for a treat today!"
Claire Bennett had to admit that Julian Sterling's sister was a very good actress.
In the blink of an eye, she had turned into a different person. If Claire hadn't seen it with her own eyes just now, she probably wouldn't have known that she had another side to her at all.
