Ch. 231 - Already Decided Not to Divorce

Chapter 231

Already Decided Not to Divorce

When Evelyn Sterling saw Julian Sterling, she put on a kind smile.

She said softly, "Julian, what brings you here? Have you eaten? Your grandfather is in a bad mood, and he isn't feeling very well."

Evelyn Sterling was actually reminding Julian Sterling in secret that Old Mr. Sterling was in a bad mood, and telling him to watch what he said a little so he wouldn't provoke the old man and make his condition worse.

Julian Sterling gave a slight nod and sat down on the sofa in front of Old Mr. Sterling.

Then he lifted his eyes to look at Old Mr. Sterling and asked in a low voice with concern, "Grandpa, are you not feeling well? Should we call a doctor over to take a look?"

Old Mr. Sterling snapped, "If you'd hurry up and get divorced, I'd feel fine."

Seeing that Old Mr. Sterling still had the strength to get angry, Julian Sterling knew he wasn't really sick. It seemed it really was because of the matter between him and Claire Bennett, and he had come at just the right time.

His expression remained calm as he said in a low voice, "Grandpa, I came today because I want to talk to you about my situation."

Hearing Julian Sterling say that, Old Mr. Sterling looked displeased.

He let out a cold snort and said, "You still haven't gotten divorced even now. Has something happened? I'd like to hear it. What unavoidable hardship could you possibly have that made you get strung along by a woman like that?"

Julian Sterling did not back down. He said in a low voice, "I've already decided not to get divorced."

"You bastard!"

Although Old Mr. Sterling had been mentally prepared, hearing Julian Sterling's words still made him tremble all over with rage.

He glared at Julian Sterling and said, "So this is why you've been fooling me over and over? Looks to me like from the very beginning, you never wanted to divorce that woman!"

Looking at Old Mr. Sterling's ashen face, Julian Sterling said honestly, "Before, I really had decided to get divorced, but later I didn't want to anymore. I'm sure I want her. Claire is the only girl I want to spend my life with."

"What's so good about her that she's worth this much of your obsession?" Old Mr. Sterling was furious.

Julian Sterling knew there was no way to persuade Old Mr. Sterling, so he simply said nothing. Claire Bennett's good qualities weren't something that could be explained clearly in just a few words.

After a moment of silence, he said, "She's very good. I hope Grandpa can accept her. If it's because of her family background, then I don't think you need to worry."

Hearing Julian Sterling say that, Old Mr. Sterling calmed down.

He narrowed his eyes and asked suspiciously, "Could our investigation have been wrong? Is she some rich family's daughter we failed to uncover?"

Although he had confidence in his own abilities, Old Mr. Sterling still felt that perhaps he really had missed something.

In Julian Sterling's mind appeared the things Sean Shaw had said.

Although Claire Bennett had fallen out with the Bennett family, she was still one of them in the end. She had the knowledge and upbringing she ought to have, and she should meet the old master's standards.

This time, when he returned to New York, he had planned to be honest with Old Mr. Sterling that Claire Bennett was not an ordinary person, in order to obtain Old Mr. Sterling's approval.

After considering it for a moment, Julian Sterling said, "Claire has a high level of education, and her abilities are no worse than any of the rich young ladies you found before. If what you want is a young lady from a prominent family, then I think Claire is more than suitable."

He paused, then continued, "Among New York's socialites, no matter which one you compare with her, none of them measure up."

Julian Sterling was extremely confident about that point.

Old Mr. Sterling narrowed his eyes.

Julian Sterling truly was talking wild, to dare to say something like that.

Realizing that he was actually wavering a little, Old Mr. Sterling's expression stiffened again, and he said coldly, "I don't believe it! What kind of outstanding woman could come from that sort of family? In any case, I do not agree to letting that woman into the family."
