Chapter 270
Do You Know Hazel Lewis?
Claire Bennett hadn't shown much anger in front of Hazel Lewis just now, but after leaving, she started stewing in silent resentment all by herself.
She still hadn't explained her own situation clearly to Julian Sterling, and yet he had one so-called fiancee pop out first—and that fiancee had even come to her door to warn her off!
Although she felt that a rich girl like Hazel Lewis wasn't a good match for a driver who worked for someone else like Julian Sterling, aside from his family background, there wasn't a single thing about him that fell short.
With Julian Sterling's aunt pulling strings, it wasn't all that strange that Hazel Lewis would agree to it.
Originally, she had wanted to tell Julian Sterling about what happened to her at Kinley Estate, but now she was hesitating.
Hazel Lewis was so beautiful, and she had that kind of family background too.
She was no longer the Bennett family's precious daughter. Without an outstanding family background, there had already been some distance between them. If the matter of Kinley Estate was added on top of that, she would probably lose completely.
At that moment, Claire Bennett immediately decided that she could not tell Julian Sterling about it.
Standing at the intersection, Claire Bennett didn't know where to go—back to Sean Shaw's detached house, or back to Parkview Heights.
In the end, after thinking it over, she still decided to go back to Parkview Heights.
Even if she could avoid telling him about Kinley Estate, there were still some things she needed to have an honest talk with Julian Sterling about. Things couldn't keep going on like this forever.
No matter how much Hazel Lewis barked, what mattered most was Julian Sterling's attitude.
Claire Bennett returned to Parkview Heights and didn't finally hear the sound of the lock opening until quitting time.
"You're back."
Julian Sterling closed the door and walked in. He was carrying a huge bag in his hand with Crown Taste House's logo printed on it, and Claire Bennett's eyes widened in surprise.
"I knew you didn't have time to cook, so I stopped to buy this on the way back."
Claire Bennett stood up and took the insulated carrier from his hand, then busied herself taking out the dishes one by one.
In an instant, the table was covered with delicate dishes. They looked delicious and mouthwatering, and every single one was something she'd eaten there last time and praised as good.
Next, the two of them began to eat.
Claire Bennett had been away from Parkview Heights for several days. Eating here again now, she couldn't help feeling a little emotional.
When Julian Sterling saw that Claire Bennett looked deep in thought, he asked, "Did you go out today?"
The question instantly made Claire Bennett think of Hazel Lewis, and she started getting angry again. But she also wanted to test whether Julian Sterling knew about it.
She asked, "Do you know Hazel Lewis?"
Julian Sterling's eyes narrowed slightly, as if he were carefully thinking it over.
He did remember Daniel Lewis, and he vaguely recalled that he had a daughter named Hazel Lewis, but he had never paid much attention, and he didn't know why Claire Bennett was suddenly asking about this.
Julian Sterling said cautiously, "Not well."
Then he added, "I've had contact with Daniel Lewis through work. Is the person you're talking about his daughter?"
Claire Bennett had been full of anger, but now that she heard Julian Sterling say that, all of her anger subsided.
So Julian Sterling didn't know about this sudden fiancee of his either?
It was all his aunt acting on her own!
If that was the case, then what was she worried about? She could just ignore her directly. After all, she and Julian Sterling were legally married now and had their marriage certificate, so what was there to fear that Hazel Lewis could do?
"What about Hazel Lewis?" Julian Sterling asked.
Claire Bennett shook her head. "Nothing. I was just curious, so I asked."
She didn't tell Julian Sterling that Hazel Lewis had come looking for her, and Julian Sterling didn't think much of it either. To him, Hazel Lewis was just an unimportant person with nothing to do with him, not someone worth keeping in mind.
When Julian Sterling saw Claire Bennett pick up a napkin to wipe her mouth, he knew she was done eating. He also set down the chopsticks in his hand, looked at Claire Bennett, and said, "Shall we talk?"
