Chapter 275
Not the Slightest Sense of Incongruity
"Sure." Julian Sterling nodded.
So the three of them happily got in the car together and headed to Father Sterling's and Mother Sterling's new place. On the way, they also bought flowers, fruit, and a few other things.
The home Father Sterling and Mother Sterling had moved into was in a moderately priced residential complex, but each elevator landing served only two units, and the surroundings looked pretty nice—at least much better than their previous small apartment.
When they went in, Father Sterling and Mother Sterling were already preparing dinner.
Claire Bennett felt a little bad about it and immediately joined in to help.
Julian Sterling naturally stayed by Claire Bennett's side and helped cook with her.
Ruby Sterling had originally been a pampered young lady who had never done housework, but when she saw that even Julian Sterling had gone to help, she couldn't just sit there waiting for everyone else to work, so she joined in too.
Seeing Ruby Sterling working seriously, Claire Bennett's lips curved up slightly.
Why did she feel like Ruby Sterling being here didn't seem out of place at all?
As though she were Julian Sterling's sister, as if this were what the family was originally supposed to look like. If Julian Sterling's sister were Ruby Sterling, she would definitely be able to get along with her well.
Suddenly, Claire Bennett thought of Julian Sterling's real sister.
She didn't like her and had schemed against her, causing her to lose her virginity at Kinley Estate. Even though Julian Sterling's sister was no longer appearing in front of her now, the harm she had suffered could no longer be erased.
Her mood suddenly turned a little awful.
No!
She couldn't sink into these emotions anymore. She had agreed to make a proper fresh start with Julian Sterling, so she shouldn't keep clinging to the past.
Next, what she needed to do was find out whether the owner of Kinley Estate was Ethan Sterling. Only by getting to the bottom of that could she eliminate the hidden threat!
At the dinner table, the atmosphere was harmonious.
To stay in character, Mother Sterling even said with a smile that in the future she would leave this apartment to Claire Bennett and Julian Sterling, so they wouldn't need to feel any pressure.
In truth, she was also afraid that Claire Bennett might really think Julian Sterling was poor and look down on him deep down, which was why she said it. In reality, the wealth they could leave Julian Sterling was beyond Claire Bennett's imagination.
Claire Bennett could hear that in Mother Sterling's words too.
She quickly smiled and said that young people could work hard on their own and didn't need to worry about the future, and that they should just enjoy their retirement.
At the same time, she became even more determined to work hard and not become someone who mooched off her parents.
After dinner, the three of them said goodbye to Father Sterling and Mother Sterling and left.
Julian Sterling first took Claire Bennett back to Parkview Heights, then took Ruby Sterling back to the Sterling family home.
The car moved steadily along the road. Ruby Sterling was playing on her phone when she suddenly saw something, and immediately leaned forward with a serious look on her face. "Bro! I have something extremely important to report!"
"Hm?"
"Here's the situation..." Ruby Sterling cleared her throat and said, "My informant in the Sterling family told me that Grandpa is actually setting you up on blind dates! I heard he's not looking among New York socialites anymore—he's turned his attention to Chicago. No idea who he'll end up choosing!"
Julian Sterling frowned slightly.
He hadn't expected his grandfather still to be unwilling to accept Claire Bennett.
"But there are only a few in Chicago who are really presentable. I don't know which family's daughter Grandpa has his eye on. If we can find out in advance, we can deal with it sooner." Ruby Sterling rubbed her chin and muttered.
Julian Sterling's gaze darkened slightly, and some memories suddenly surfaced in his mind.
Two days ago, Claire Bennett had suddenly asked him about Hazel Lewis. Could it be that Grandpa had approached Daniel Lewis's daughter?
"Hazel Lewis," he said in a low voice.
"Huh? How do you know?" Ruby Sterling exclaimed in surprise.
She searched her memory for this woman, Hazel Lewis. She had seen her once before at a gathering at Kinley Estate, but wasn't very familiar with her.
"It really could be Hazel Lewis! After all, the Lewis family counts as one of Chicago's prominent families. This is really going to be hard to deal with. What should we do?"
"No need to worry about it."
Julian Sterling had not the slightest interest in other women, nor did he think this matter posed any kind of threat. As long as things were good between him and Claire Bennett, that was enough.
Ruby Sterling had originally wanted to say something more, but seeing how calm and unconcerned Julian Sterling looked, she felt that there really was nothing to worry about.
Her brother didn't give any other woman a second glance. Even if ten daughters from the Lewis family showed up, they still wouldn't be able to shake Claire Bennett's position.
As if thinking of something, Ruby Sterling asked, "Oh right, when are you planning to tell Claire that you're my brother?"
For Julian Sterling's happiness, she and Dad and Mom had all sacrificed a great deal.
Julian Sterling was silent for a moment before saying, "Wait a little longer."
At the very least, he had to wait until his relationship with Claire Bennett had stabilized, then find an opportunity to tell her. That way he wouldn't have to worry about causing any bad consequences.
After safely dropping Ruby Sterling off at home, Julian Sterling returned to Parkview Heights.
On the road, he was thinking back over what had happened earlier.
If what Ruby Sterling said was true and Grandpa had already approached the Lewis family, then perhaps Claire Bennett already knew about it.
But she hadn't made a scene with him. She had only tentatively asked him whether he knew Hazel Lewis.
At the time, he hadn't thought much of it. Only now was he connecting everything together.
Julian Sterling's eyes darkened slightly. The fact that Claire Bennett hadn't gotten upset with him showed that she hadn't taken him to heart at all.
