Chapter 280
You Might as Well Resign Too
Seeing Chloe Carter acting like a bully backed by power, a sharp glint spilled into Claire Bennett's eyes. She said coldly, "It's only one design draft. If it's ruined, then redraw it. You're making a huge deal out of nothing and forcing someone to resign. Are you trying to bully people in the workplace?"
When Willow Lane saw Claire Bennett show up, she naturally wished Claire would be punished along with Molly Lee. That was why she hadn't stopped Chloe Carter from making trouble just now. Now she heard Claire Bennett accuse them of workplace bullying.
Her face immediately turned cold, and she snorted. "Claire Bennett, don't try to gloss over the important part. It's a fact that the draft was ruined. Redraw it? You make it sound so easy. Do you think inspiration just comes whenever you want it to?"
Molly Lee had never expected Claire Bennett to be able to help her, and she didn't want to drag Claire down and make her get punished too.
"Director Claire, forget it. I'd better go turn in my resignation to HR."
After saying that, Molly Lee turned to leave.
Claire Bennett reached out and grabbed her arm. "Don't go!"
She looked at Willow Lane and said, "I will restore your draft for you, and this matter ends here. If you still want to keep making trouble, then we'll sit down and argue it out properly!"
Willow Lane's eyes darkened slightly.
She had only just started dating President Sterling, and she still didn't have him completely under her thumb. She couldn't blow up something this minor and make him unhappy because of it.
For now, she would endure it!
Thinking that, Willow Lane put on a magnanimous expression and snorted. "Fine. I'm not some petty person. If you can restore this draft to exactly how it was within three days, then I'll let you both off."
"Director Claire..." Although Molly Lee was happy that she didn't have to resign, she was still worried Claire Bennett wouldn't be able to resolve this, and then she'd end up dragging her down after all.
Claire Bennett gave her a reassuring look. "Don't worry."
Then she took Willow Lane's original design draft.
Seeing there was no more excitement to watch, everyone dispersed. Only Chloe Carter still stood there unwillingly, her eyes dark and resentful.
Chloe Carter had originally thought she would get something out of this, but unexpectedly Claire Bennett had managed to muddle through it, and unwillingness welled up in her heart.
What a shame!
She moved close to Willow Lane and said in a low voice, "Willow, why did you just let Claire Bennett off like that? If we'd forced her to resign just now, then I could've become director and helped you out."
Chloe Carter made it sound nice, but in reality she was still doing it for herself so she could become design director.
Willow Lane gave a light snort and said, "Do you really think I let her off?"
Chloe Carter looked confused when she heard that.
Willow Lane smiled mysteriously and didn't tell Chloe Carter what she planned to do, leaving Chloe itching with curiosity. But she knew that as long as she kept sucking up to Willow Lane in the future, there would definitely be even greater benefits.
Chloe Carter immediately fawned and flattered, saying, "Willow, if there's anything you need from me, I'll definitely do my best to help."
Of course Willow Lane knew Chloe Carter was acting like this because she wanted benefits from her. Whether or not she'd actually give her anything aside, receiving her adoration did make her feel thoroughly pleased.
"Fine. Since you're so good at reading the room, I won't forget to give you your share of the benefits."
Chloe Carter's eyes lit up at once. "Thank you, Willow!"
After Claire Bennett returned to her seat, she spread out the design draft. Although it was stained with coffee, the underlying sketch was still clearly visible. It only needed some slight work and to be redrawn, which was nothing difficult given her abilities.
"Director Claire, can this still be restored?" Molly Lee asked worriedly from the side.
"Yes."
Hearing that, the tension finally eased from Molly Lee's brow, and she looked visibly relieved. "That's great. If it really can be restored, then I won't be fired."
Hearing Molly Lee's words, Claire Bennett smiled. "Don't worry. This isn't a big deal. It shouldn't come to resigning."
"Director Claire, you're so good. Thank you!"
Molly Lee looked at Claire Bennett with reddened eyes, deeply grateful from the bottom of her heart.
Claire Bennett let out a soft sigh and said, "This matter may be over for now, but I'm afraid things won't be peaceful in the future. Molly, you need to be more careful from now on. Don't let them get anything on you, and also... you've been wronged."
Although this incident had been caused by Molly Lee, the real reason she had been targeted was still because she was Claire Bennett's assistant.
Hearing Claire Bennett apologize to her, Molly Lee immediately waved her hands in alarm.
"Director Claire, I haven't been wronged. I'm your assistant, so these are things I should bear. I just wasn't careful enough. I'll pay more attention from now on."
Hearing that, Claire Bennett's lips curled slightly.
It seemed Molly Lee was a good girl who knew when to advance and when to retreat, and she did not resent being dragged into this.
"All right, let's restore the draft together."
"Okay!"
Suddenly, Claire Bennett thought of something, and her expression turned slightly grave.
She said to Molly Lee, "Oh right. Starting today, record a video every day of me restoring the draft by hand, then post it online. You can't miss a single day."
"Huh? Why? These design drafts haven't been officially released yet. Isn't it a bad idea to make them public like this?" Molly Lee looked utterly puzzled.
"Then post them to your private alt account. That way no one will see them either."
It wasn't that Claire Bennett wanted to do this, but what had happened before forced her to be careful, for fear of stepping into some trap again.
"All right then. I happen to have an alt account with no followers. It's just where I usually go to vent and complain."
"Mm, let's start."
Next, the two of them began restoring Willow Lane's draft together. The little incident from earlier quickly dissipated like smoke, without causing any impact at all.
