Chapter 285
Signing Up for the Election
Good grief, she'd thought Julian Sterling was about to do something.
That scared the life out of her.
Claire Bennett gradually relaxed. Once her muscles loosened, drowsiness hit, and she slowly fell asleep.
...
The next day, after Claire Bennett arrived at the office, she had Molly Lee go sign her up for the election for the person in charge of Maison Verne.
When Molly Lee heard the news, she looked at Claire Bennett in surprise and asked, "Director Song, weren't you still not too keen on participating yesterday? How did you change your mind today?"
Such a drastic change in just one night was truly surprising.
Claire Bennett curled her lips into a smile and said casually, "Because all of a sudden I want to participate again. There aren't any restrictions anyway, right? Hurry up and go sign me up."
"You got it!" Molly Lee happily went off.
She was now Claire Bennett's assistant. If Claire Bennett got promoted, she'd rise right along with her, so naturally she was very invested in it.
The registration forms were collected by a specialist sent from Sterling International headquarters, and then they would be submitted up through the proper channels all at once.
Almost more than half of Maison Verne's employees had signed up.
Willow Lane had just handed in her registration form and was still standing by the specialist when she saw Molly Lee coming over. Her brows immediately knit slightly.
Chloe Carter was right beside Willow Lane. On the surface, she claimed she was accompanying Willow Lane to participate, but in reality she just wanted to try her luck.
And Willow Lane knew this election had been announced by upper management, so she couldn't help secretly thinking that they were definitely trying to let her take the position openly and legitimately. Otherwise, they wouldn't possibly be making such a big production out of all this.
A woman following along beside her, dressed head to toe in designer labels, immediately asked, "Molly Lee, don't tell me you're planning to enter the election too?"
"Of course not me. Director Song is entering!"
When Willow Lane heard that Claire Bennett was entering, she immediately let out a cold snort, clearly not taking Claire Bennett seriously at all.
"She's entering the election? Has she finished restoring the draft yet? She actually has the leisure to enter this too. What a joke!"
Molly Lee couldn't care less about Willow Lane. She handed over the materials in her hand.
Then she turned and left right away.
Seeing Molly Lee act so haughty, Willow Lane was so angry her face turned green.
Damn it. Once she successfully took the position, she would definitely get rid of Claire Bennett and that little assistant who was such an eyesore.
New York, the Sterling family home.
There were guests at the Sterling family home today.
Daniel Lewis brought Hazel Lewis to visit Old Mr. Sterling and Old Mrs. Sterling. The group sat in the living room exchanging pleasantries.
"Old Mr. Sterling, this is my daughter Hazel," Daniel Lewis said as he introduced her, while giving Hazel Lewis a look and saying in a low voice, "Hazel, why aren't you greeting them already?"
"Old Mr. Sterling, hello. I've always heard my father speak of your glorious accomplishments. Today I can finally meet you in person. I didn't expect you to be just as commanding as I'd imagined."
A faint smile sat on Hazel Lewis's lips as she praised Old Mr. Sterling without making it obvious. She appeared poised and graceful, every bit the elegant socialite.
"What commanding presence could I possibly have? I'm just an old man!"
"How are you old at all? You look about the same age as my father to me. You're really being too modest."
Hazel Lewis praised him in an exaggerated way, and Daniel Lewis quickly chimed in beside her. Who doesn't like hearing compliments? Even though the words were a bit over the top, they still coaxed a broad smile onto Old Mr. Sterling's face.
Old Mr. Sterling quietly sized Hazel Lewis up, then nodded in satisfaction.
He hadn't expected there to be a young heiress like this in Chicago. Compared with the ones here in New York, she wasn't inferior by much at all. This woman he'd picked out for Julian Sterling this time was not bad.
When Daniel Lewis saw Old Mr. Sterling smile, he knew Hazel Lewis had won his favorable regard, and the heart he'd been holding tight relaxed a little.
Hazel Lewis had been carefully groomed since childhood. Every aspect of her had been attended to with extreme care, all so that she could marry well in the future. Now, being able to marry into the Sterling family was their good fortune.
Thinking this, Daniel Lewis said, "Old Mr. Sterling, regarding what you told me last time, I've already spoken to Hazel about it. She doesn't have any objections..."
He paused, then continued, "When do you think it would be possible to arrange for the two children to meet? It would also give them a chance to build some feelings."
Although Hazel Lewis had already met Julian Sterling, he still pretended the two had never met. If Old Mr. Sterling arranged it personally, that would be better.
Old Mr. Sterling fell silent in thought when he heard that.
Right now Julian Sterling was determined to have his own way, dead set on staying tangled up with that woman, and had even declared that he'd rather give up the Sterling family than get a divorce.
He had to step in and interfere now.
But he knew Julian Sterling's rotten temper. Getting him to come to a meeting was practically impossible, so the only option was to use some other opportunity.
Suddenly, Old Mr. Sterling thought of something.
He said, "Next week is Evelyn's birthday celebration. The two of you come together then, and I'll make the arrangements."
Evelyn was Old Mr. Sterling's pet name for Old Mrs. Sterling, Evelyn Sterling. Daniel Lewis had long since gotten word about the preparations for Old Mrs. Sterling's birthday banquet, and he had been thinking of presenting a generous gift then.
He'd originally thought meeting Julian Sterling would just be over an ordinary meal, but he hadn't expected Old Mr. Sterling to directly invite them over!
If they appeared at the birthday banquet and Old Mr. Sterling clearly favored them, wouldn't that be no different from announcing Hazel Lewis's status as his future granddaughter-in-law?
By then, he, as the Sterling family's future in-law, would also become the center of attention. After that, he'd be soaring to success!
At once, Daniel Lewis beamed with delight and repeatedly said, "Good, good, good. I'll definitely come bearing a gift then."
After chatting a while longer, Daniel Lewis and Hazel Lewis finally got up and took their leave.
After the two got into the car, Daniel Lewis solemnly instructed, "Hazel, this birthday banquet for the old madam is of utmost importance. It's your best chance to perform well. You absolutely must not be careless about it, understand!"
Hazel Lewis also knew how important this was. She nodded repeatedly and said, "I understand. I'll definitely prepare well."
