Chapter 39
Claire Bennett Got Married
Ethan Sterling froze when he heard Claire Bennett say that she was already married.
Seriously?
When he was pursuing Claire Bennett, he had put in quite a bit of effort before she agreed to be with him. And now, right after breaking up with him, she had immediately gotten married?
Claire Bennett continued, "My husband is gentle and considerate, handsome too, and better than Ethan Sterling in every way. Our relationship is very harmonious. From now on, Ms. Sterling and Mr. Sterling, please conduct yourselves with some dignity."
After saying that, she stopped paying attention to the two of them, turned around, and left.
Tanya Sterling was so angry her face darkened. "Ethan, do you really believe her? How could she possibly give up on you? What she said just now was only to make you anxious so you'd go back to her. Don't be stupid. Naomi Pierce is the Bennett family's daughter. Claire Bennett is nowhere near her level."
Ethan Sterling had still felt a little unwilling just now, but after hearing Tanya Sterling's words, he immediately let out a light snort. "Mom, of course I know Claire Bennett is just playing hard to get. Do I look that stupid? I'm not falling for her trick!"
She was married, and her husband was even better than him? What an absolutely ridiculous joke!
What ordinary man could accept a woman from a single-parent family? And with her mother in the hospital, she still had to pay enormous medical bills every month. A wealthy family would be even less likely to want a woman like that.
"Good."
Tanya Sterling's shrewd eyes darkened as if she had thought of something.
She said, "Ethan, urge Naomi and have her arrange for the Bennett family to meet us. You two are about to get married, after all. How can that work if we haven't met the future in-laws?"
"Mm, I know. I'll talk to Naomi. Mom, stop worrying. It's not like Naomi would dare lie to us, right?"
Tanya Sterling felt that made sense.
The Bennett family was no ordinary family. They held an extraordinary position in New York. Even if Naomi Pierce had ten times the courage, she still wouldn't dare pretend to be a rich heiress and deceive them.
Inside a house on the outskirts of Chicago, Kevin Parker was being held there.
Not only was his freedom restricted, even his phone was being monitored.
After learning that Julian Sterling was President Sterling, Kevin Parker had long since lost his temper. How would he dare resist? He wanted nothing more than to kill Naomi Pierce, that woman who had ruined him.
Now, only by obeying could he keep his life.
It was just that he didn't know what exactly Julian Sterling wanted him to do.
Kevin Parker looked at Marcus Reed beside him and said pitifully, "Assistant Marcus, I did what you told me to do. Could you maybe put in a good word for me in front of President Sterling? That woman seduced me. I was only bewitched for a moment."
Marcus Reed shot him a cold glance and snorted. "You touched someone you never should have touched. President Sterling still isn't over his anger. From here on out, it'll depend on how you perform."
...
Inside the Sterling International office.
Naomi Pierce was so restless she couldn't sit still, feeling extremely anxious.
She reached a hand out and touched her stomach.
The engagement date was getting closer and closer, but her body had let her down. She still wasn't pregnant, and she was truly afraid that one day the truth would come out by accident.
And then there was Kevin Parker's side of things...
She had already told him to deal with Claire Bennett, but Kevin Parker hadn't sent back a single message, and she had no idea what the situation was.
At that moment, after separating from Tanya Sterling, Ethan Sterling immediately went to Naomi Pierce's office.
When Naomi Pierce saw Ethan Sterling walk in with a frown, she quickly suppressed her thoughts and came back to herself. She stood up and walked over, asking with gentle concern, "Ethan, why do you look so unhappy? Did something happen?"
"Naomi, my mom is urging me to meet my future father-in-law soon. When are you going to take me to meet him? If he's not free, we can go to New York instead."
Hearing that, Naomi Pierce froze, her body stiffening, and a trace of panic flashed through her eyes.
Very quickly, she forced her emotions back down.
"Ethan, didn't I already tell you? I had a fight with my dad, and our relationship isn't very good right now. When our engagement comes around, we'll send him an invitation. That way we'll have an excuse to reconcile."
She had put him off many times already. This time, she couldn't make up an excuse too casually, or it was very likely to arouse Ethan Sterling's dissatisfaction. If her wording wasn't perfect, it would probably make people suspicious.
So she decided not to refuse anymore and instead directly say that she'd invite Victor Bennett to the engagement party. At that point, she'd think of a way to deal with them.
After hearing Naomi Pierce's words, Ethan Sterling's gloomy expression eased quite a bit.
Although he was a member of the Sterling family, his status within the family wasn't all that great. Otherwise, he wouldn't have needed to cling to Julian Sterling.
Now, with Victor Bennett as his father-in-law, it would definitely allow him to rise straight up through the ranks. Maybe he could even catch the old master's eye, outdo his uncle Julian Sterling, and become the Sterling family's future heir.
Ethan Sterling was already fantasizing about the wonderful future ahead.
His tone softened as he said quietly, "What you said makes sense. Then hurry up and send the invitation."
"Okay. I want to improve my relationship with Dad too, so don't worry." Naomi Pierce clung to Ethan Sterling's arm and acted coquettishly.
Suddenly, Ethan Sterling asked, "Do you know anything about what's been going on with Claire Bennett lately?"
"What is it? Why are you asking that?" Naomi Pierce asked in surprise.
Hearing Ethan Sterling take the initiative to ask about Claire Bennett made a bad feeling rise in her heart, and she immediately became wary.
"Claire Bennett came by just now, and she even said she's already married."
Ethan Sterling remembered how Claire Bennett had just said that she was already married and that her husband was better than him. Although he didn't believe her, his masculine pride was still at work, and he still felt a little unwilling to accept it.
