Chapter 400
His Identity Really Couldn't Be Hidden Anymore
When Claire Bennett and Julian Sterling arrived at the hospital, they saw Ruby Sterling waiting for them at the entrance.
To their surprise, she had actually gotten there before they did.
Ruby walked up to them. "Claire, you're here. Let's go in and take a look."
She casually glanced at Julian. Seeing that there wasn't much expression on his face, she roughly guessed that his identity still hadn't been exposed, and immediately felt relieved.
Next, the three of them headed toward the ER.
Ruby moved closer to Julian and lowered her voice as she asked, "Julian, why did you bring Claire with you? Aren't you afraid she'll find out about you? Didn't you say you'd tell her after the election was over?"
Julian's eyes flickered.
He had originally planned to tell Claire Bennett his real identity, starting from the moment he drove his own car today.
What happened to Wes Mercer might be a very good opening.
"If she knows, she knows."
Ruby secretly sucked in a breath. From the sound of it, he wasn't going to wait until Maison Verne and Nia's competition was over to tell Claire Bennett—he was going to say it now?
In the blink of an eye, the three of them arrived together inside the ER.
In the ER were countless hospital beds. Several blood-covered patients were lying on them, and countless doctors and nurses moved busily among them. Ruby hurriedly grabbed a nurse and politely asked, "Hello, may I ask where the person who was just brought in after a car accident is? Oh, right! His name is Wes Mercer."
The nurse pointed at one of the beds and said, "Over there."
Claire glanced toward the man, and immediately couldn't help sucking in a sharp breath.
This person looked so badly hurt!
Ruby saw what Wes Mercer looked like too, and she froze in place.
Huh?
With Wes Mercer's face swollen up like a pig's head right now, probably not even his own mother would recognize him!
One of Wes Mercer's legs was wrapped in thick bandages, and his face had taken quite a beating too. Bruised and swollen, he looked extremely serious.
Ruby secretly glanced at Claire. Sure enough, Claire didn't show any surprise at all. Clearly, she hadn't recognized Wes Mercer.
She then quietly glanced behind her again, and the meaning in her eyes was very obvious.
Bro, your plan fell through.
Julian's face was cold and stern, but he didn't take it to heart. He strode over to Wes Mercer and said, "Wes Mercer, how are you?"
"Lu... mmmph..." After hearing Julian's voice, the still-reclining Wes Mercer wanted to sit up and speak.
Julian reached out and pressed him down. "Don't get up. I'll cover your medical expenses, so don't worry. Focus on recovering, and come back to work after you're better."
Wes Mercer was deeply moved. He widened his eyes and mumbled a couple of words indistinctly.
His injuries were simply too severe, and no one nearby could make out what he was saying.
Only Julian understood what he meant. Wes Mercer was saying, "Thank you, President Sterling. I'll definitely work hard."
Claire had been staring at Wes Mercer this whole time. Although she felt he looked somewhat familiar, she truly didn't know him.
After looking for quite a while, she stopped paying much attention to Wes Mercer.
The few of them stood there for a while before a doctor came over and said Wes Mercer needed surgery and that someone had to go sign the paperwork.
Julian left with the doctor.
Claire remembered that Julian had just said he would pay Wes Mercer's medical bills, but his payroll card was with her!
He probably didn't have much money on him.
"Ruby, he forgot to take his card. I'll give him his bank card."
After saying that, Claire walked in the direction Julian and the nurse had gone.
Unexpectedly, when she got closer, she heard the nurse ask Julian, "Hello, what is your relationship to Wes Mercer?"
Julian said, "I'm his boss."
Ruby, who had followed over uneasily, suddenly widened her eyes and slapped her forehead.
Oh, my God!
This time, his identity really couldn't be hidden anymore.
Julian hadn't noticed that Claire and Ruby were right behind him. Under the nurse's guidance, he finished signing his name.
After the nurse left, Claire and Ruby walked forward.
Before Claire could speak, Ruby immediately started reminding Julian. She said, "Claire and I just came over, and we heard the nurse ask who you were to Wes Mercer."
After saying that, Ruby winked at Julian.
Julian gave her a calm glance, then very naturally looked at Claire and asked, "Claire, why did you come over? Is there something you need?"
Claire took out the card in her hand and said, "I wanted to remind you that you forgot to bring your card. Your bank card is with me. Last time we borrowed money from Ruby, so the salary in it hasn't been touched."
Julian responded softly and took the card from Claire's hand.
He went to pay the fees.
That left only Ruby and Claire where they stood.
Ruby lightly bit her lip and asked worriedly, "Claire, you... just now..."
What she really wanted to ask was whether, after hearing Julian say he was Wes Mercer's boss, Claire had suspected anything. What if she realized Julian was that person himself?
They had kept it hidden for so long already. If it suddenly came out now, it really was worrying whether there would be a major backlash.
Claire looked somewhat blankly at Ruby, who seemed anxious beyond belief and looked like she wanted to say something but stopped herself. Confusion showed in Claire's eyes as she asked in surprise, "Hm? What's wrong?"
"Didn't you hear it just now?" Ruby asked, taking a deep breath.
Now she understood. The reason her brother hadn't explained anything just now was because he wanted Claire to find out about it naturally.
So there was nothing for her to keep hiding either.
Claire looked completely baffled. "Hear what?"
"Just now... just now he said boss!" Ruby blurted out impulsively, then lowered her head, hardly daring to look at Claire even once.
