Chapter 410
There Was Actually a New Development
Marcus Reed couldn't help blurting out, "Damn! You... what, are you afraid I'm going to steal your food or something? Fine... stop hiding it already. I just want to see what restaurant made food good enough for you to be this crazy about it."
Wes Mercer was usually pretty picky about food, so anything he liked this much definitely wasn't ordinary.
"It's not from a restaurant. Someone made it specially for me."
Someone made it specially for him?
Marcus seemed to think of something.
After he got back, he'd heard that Wes Mercer had been dumped because his identity was exposed. Just now, he hadn't even dared comfort Wes Mercer, afraid it would remind him of it and make him sad.
Who would've thought there was actually a new development?
The next second, Marcus immediately slipped into gossip mode.
He sat down beside him and grinned. "Wes Mercer, you little punk, do you have a backup besides Willow Lane? Hurry up and tell me who it is. When did this start? You actually kept it from me. That's seriously not cool!"
Wes Mercer hadn't expected to be misunderstood, and quickly explained, "Not a backup. She just happened to deliver a meal for Miss Bennett that day. After I ate her cooking, it tasted like a memory, so I helped arrange for her to keep cooking."
"Uh..." Marcus was a little dumbfounded.
That worked too?
It really caught him completely off guard.
But looking at Wes Mercer now, he was obviously already distracted, and he wasn't wallowing in heartbreak anymore. Put that way, it was actually a good thing.
Marcus looked at the beautifully prepared, delicious-looking dishes and couldn't help swallowing. "Wes Mercer, let me try some."
How could Wes Mercer possibly give away his treasure? He let out a light snort, turned his back on him, and started eating by himself.
In the blink of an eye, the weekend arrived.
After work that day, neither Nia nor Maison Verne's employees left, because tonight was the gathering they'd all been looking forward to for a long time.
Julian Sterling drove Claire Bennett there, and Molly Lee and Sienna Shaw tagged along for a free ride too.
The two of them sat in the back seat of the luxury car, full of awe and amazement. It was their first time riding in a car like this, and their faces were full of wonder. They were really benefiting from Claire Bennett.
Was this the same car that had brutally slapped Willow Lane in the face last time? They were so excited they couldn't help whispering behind Claire Bennett's back.
"So luxurious, so beautiful!!"
"I feel like my whole body is tense just sitting in here!"
After saying that, they looked toward Julian Sterling, who was driving.
At that moment, Julian Sterling was wearing a white shirt and black dress pants, giving off a refined, elegant air. He was focused on driving, and even just the back of his head looked strikingly handsome. His calm movements were filled with an indescribable charm.
Molly Lee sighed emotionally, "I don't know why, but I always have this weird feeling that Manager Bennett's husband has President Sterling's vibe."
Ever since the first time she'd met Julian Sterling, Molly Lee had actually always felt that way, but recently the feeling had become especially strong.
Sienna Shaw couldn't help laughing. "Oh, come on. President Sterling personally driving for you? You'd have to burn some serious incense to get that kind of insane luck."
...
Inside a famous entertainment club in Chicago.
Nia's gathering was being held in this private club. Besides dining, it also had KTV and other after-dinner entertainment all in one place, making it perfect for this kind of event.
Quite a few people were sitting together chatting.
Willow Lane was seated in the middle, with quite a few people gathered around her trying to cozy up.
"Willow, when is President Sterling getting here? We're all getting a little impatient."
"Yeah, I've never even seen President Sterling before. This time I really have to get a good look."
Most of these people had never seen Julian Sterling before, and now they couldn't help getting curious.
They'd heard that some of the people who'd jumped ship from Maison Verne had seen him, and couldn't help asking, "You've seen President Sterling, right? What exactly does he look like?"
Those few started recalling what Julian Sterling looked like and said repeatedly, "Of course he's handsome and good-looking!"
Even though they thought President Sterling was a little ordinary, even not as good-looking as Claire Bennett's man, he was still President Sterling, so they also
Hazel Lewis was sitting among them too. She glanced at Willow Lane, her brows knitting slightly.
For the past few days, Willow Lane had looked as though nothing had happened at all. She seemed completely confident, not the least bit flustered.
If Hazel Lewis hadn't overheard that phone call, she probably would've thought nothing had happened to Willow Lane either. She was just too calm. Could it be that she had something planned?
No matter what, Hazel Lewis had already made other arrangements, so she didn't need to worry about Claire Bennett making a splash.
Thinking that, Hazel Lewis curled her lips into a cold sneer.
Just then, Claire Bennett and the others arrived.
All around them, Nia's employees fell silent for a moment, their gazes turning toward Claire Bennett and her group. After all, aside from them, everyone else present belonged to Nia.
No matter whether they'd once come from Maison Verne or not, they were now in competition with Maison Verne.
When Willow Lane saw that Claire Bennett had actually brought that man of hers along, a flash of jealousy crossed her eyes.
But she quickly suppressed it. Wearing a gentle smile, she said, "Claire Bennett, you're finally here. Come over and have a seat."
