Chapter 435
Julian Sterling's Cover Blown
Julian Sterling stared at the tightly shut door with a grim expression. The others were nowhere near as calm as he was. After finding out that something had happened to Claire Bennett, Ruby Sterling had cried for a long time, and only now had she recovered a little. She truly didn't dare imagine what Claire was going to do.
At that moment, Julian Sterling's phone rang.
It was Marcus Reed calling. A trace of killing intent crossed his face, and he walked off to the side to answer it.
"Mr. Sterling, we've already found Ian Walsh. He's got quite a few injuries on him. What should we do with him now?"
Julian Sterling said in a cold, harsh voice, "Teach him a proper lesson first, then send him to the police station."
After saying that, he hung up. Marcus looked helplessly at the disconnected phone. He hadn't finished speaking just now, but Julian Sterling had already ended the call. Actually, he had wanted to say that they had already severely interrogated Ian Walsh, and Ian had confessed that he hadn't touched Claire Bennett at all.
But presumably Claire Bennett would tell Julian Sterling herself.
When Julian Sterling ended the call and walked back, the doctor had just finished the examination and come out.
Before she could speak, Ruby Sterling blurted out first, "How is she? Is Claire okay? Does she need any treatment? Why don't we find another psychologist to counsel her?"
"Mrs. Sterling, Mr. Sterling, Mr. Sterling, you don't need to worry. Mrs. Sterling was only frightened a little. She doesn't have any injuries at all, so you don't need to be overly concerned about her condition."
Huh?
Ruby Sterling and Mr. and Mrs. Sterling froze in place. Did that mean... Claire Bennett hadn't been...
Afraid the doctor didn't dare say it outright, they pulled her a little farther away and said in a low voice, "Dr. Monroe, tell us honestly. How exactly is Claire doing? Are you worried she'll hear, so you don't dare tell us?"
Dr. Monroe smiled helplessly. "I've already done a careful examination. Mrs. Sterling really is perfectly fine."
Hearing that, the hearts they had been holding in their throats finally relaxed.
This was truly wonderful! Nothing had happened to Claire Bennett—they had all misunderstood!
Julian Sterling had also heard Dr. Monroe's words. A look of surprise flashed through his eyes, and then he stepped into the room.
On the bed, Claire Bennett was sitting there in a daze. She had just heard the doctor and the others talking—the way the doctor addressed them, and the way she addressed her.
Mrs. Sterling...
That identity felt utterly strange to her.
Just then, Julian Sterling came to the bedside and gently sat down on the edge of the bed. "Claire."
Claire Bennett lifted her eyes to look at him and sized him up from top to bottom. After a moment, she finally asked, "Who exactly are you? Are you Mr. Sterling? You're the real Julian Sterling, aren't you?"
When Julian Sterling heard Claire Bennett's question, helplessness appeared in his eyes.
He had already decided last time to reveal his identity. Now that Claire Bennett had discovered it, there was nothing left for him to hide.
He said softly, "Mm. I am Mr. Sterling."
Claire Bennett's gaze rested on him. "So you've been lying to me all along?"
At that moment, when Ruby Sterling at the doorway heard Claire Bennett's words, afraid she would blame Julian Sterling, she hurriedly rushed in in a fluster.
She threw herself down by the bed and began repenting in great distress. "Claire, this is all my fault. Don't blame my brother. I was the one who misled you first. He didn't know about this at the beginning either. If you want to blame someone, blame me!"
Ruby Sterling truly had not expected Julian Sterling's identity to be exposed under these circumstances.
None of them had been prepared yet.
Claire Bennett looked at Ruby Sterling, then at Julian Sterling. The two of them really did look a bit alike. Just how blind had she been before not to see the resemblance between them? She had even thought good-looking people all looked a little similar.
"Claire, I'll do anything you want. Just don't blame my brother, okay? I swear he really didn't know anything!"
Seeing Ruby Sterling trying to take all the blame onto herself, Claire Bennett said flatly, "Even if he didn't know at the beginning, he definitely knew later. I've been misunderstanding him for so long. He must have hidden it from me on purpose."
After saying that, Claire Bennett lifted her eyes to look at Ruby Sterling. "If you're the main culprit, then he's the accomplice!"
Ruby Sterling wore a miserable expression. She had known it—the longer this matter dragged on, the worse it would be. Now she didn't know whether Claire Bennett was angry. She wasn't going to divorce her brother, was she?
Julian Sterling glanced at Ruby Sterling and said, "You and Mom and Dad go out first."
Hearing Julian Sterling's words, Ruby Sterling stood up worriedly. Although she was uneasy, this wasn't something she could interfere in.
In the end, Ruby Sterling still got up reluctantly and walked out. She even thoughtfully closed the door behind her.
After the room door closed, Ruby Sterling pressed her ear against it. She heard Claire Bennett's soft, angry scolding coming from inside.
"Let go!"
"Don't hold me..."
"And you're not allowed to kiss me either..."
After that, there was no sound at all from the room.
Ruby Sterling's eyes shifted, and she muttered, "Could it be that maybe Claire Bennett isn't all that mad after all?"
