Ch. 48 - A Heart-Stopping Night

Chapter 48

A Heart-Stopping Night

Julian Sterling quickly found the box Claire Bennett had mentioned, and he also poured her a cup of warm water and brought it to her.

Claire Bennett took it with a pale face and hurriedly swallowed it down.

"Why does your stomach hurt? Do you need me to take you to the hospital?"

"N-no, that's not necessary." It was just her period. How embarrassing would it be to go to the hospital for that?

Julian Sterling said displeased, "Why are you still trying to tough it out at a time like this?"

"Really, no. I... my period started. I'll be fine if I just rest a bit." Claire Bennett had no choice but to tell the truth. After she said it, her head drooped to her chest, feeling like she had completely lost face.

Julian Sterling's tightly furrowed brows relaxed. "Then is there anything I can do to help you?"

"I... I didn't prepare any pads. Can you help me go buy some?" After Claire Bennett said it awkwardly, she added cautiously, "If you can't, that's okay too. I'll go myself after I feel a little better."

She remembered that this had happened to her before too, when she hadn't paid attention before her period started, and then it suddenly came.

In the end, she had endured the pain and called Ethan Sterling, asking him to help.

Back then, Ethan Sterling had said that buying pads was the kind of thing a grown man like him couldn't possibly do, that people would laugh at him. He had only told her to drink more hot water. Later, after she recovered a little, she had gone to buy them herself.

So now, asking Julian Sterling to do this kind of thing, Claire Bennett felt somewhat apprehensive. She thought he might be unwilling, and she didn't have much hope.

Unexpectedly, Julian Sterling didn't say anything, only nodded and said, "Mm. Get some proper rest."

He took his keys and went out.

After watching him leave, Claire Bennett drifted off for a moment, and a fine, gentle warmth rose in her heart.

He really went?

Julian Sterling really was a gentle, considerate good man.

Very soon, Julian Sterling came back. He was carrying a black bag. By then Claire Bennett was already feeling much better, and she quickly took the bag from his hand, got out of bed, and went to the bathroom to change out of her stained pants.

Only after washing the dirty pants did she return to the room.

It seemed like the bedsheet had gotten dirty earlier. While Claire Bennett was changing it, Julian Sterling walked in and took the quilt from her hands. "Go rest. I'll do it."

Although Claire Bennett felt a little embarrassed, she still obediently sat down in the nearby chair.

She watched Julian Sterling awkwardly struggle with the bedsheet and felt this man's attractiveness in her heart shooting straight upward.

Living together really did let you experience a lot of things, and it was also the fastest way to get to know someone.

Now she actually didn't dislike the fact that she had rushed into marriage.

And why was she even feeling a little secretly thrilled?

Before long, Julian Sterling finished fixing the bedsheet. Just as he was about to walk out, Claire Bennett thought of the little sofa outside. With his tall build, sleeping there would be cramped and uncomfortable.

He had helped her so much. If she still made him go out now, that would really be too heartless.

Besides, her period had started, so there was no way he could do anything to her anyway.

After thinking for a moment, Claire Bennett said awkwardly, "Um... the sofa outside isn't comfortable. You should sleep in the room."

Julian Sterling stood where he was for a moment, then finally stepped back over.

The two of them lay down on the bed, and even placed a quilt between them, like the Chu River and Han border, the line clearly drawn. One person on each side, neither interfering with the other.

Claire Bennett let her thoughts wander for a while, then fell asleep.

In her haziness, she felt like she could hardly breathe. After being smothered awake, she realized that Julian Sterling had crossed the line!

He had turned her into a body pillow again!

Thinking of how thoughtful this man had been just now, she silently sighed, didn't reach out to push him away, and didn't bother with him anymore.
