Chapter 484
Where Are We Supposed to Get a Child?
When Julian Sterling arrived at Sterling Group, he didn't expect to see Ruby Sterling waiting there eagerly for him.
Obviously, she'd come specifically to keep tabs on what was going on between them. The moment she saw Julian Sterling, she shamelessly hurried over with a smile and said, "Julian, did you sleep okay last night? How are things between you and my sister-in-law? Is it all settled already? My trick worked, right?"
"Julian, why aren't you saying anything? Don't scare me! I was afraid you and my sister-in-law hadn't talked things through last night, so I didn't even text or call the nuisance. The way you're acting now is making me kind of panic."
Ruby Sterling had only done something like this because she'd been egged on by Cameron Quinn.
In truth, she didn't know whether what she'd done was right, and she didn't know whether Claire Bennett would be angry when she found out about it.
Most importantly, Julian Sterling's expression was simply too hard to read. She couldn't tell at all what he was thinking right now.
Just when Ruby Sterling was feeling unbearably uneasy, Julian Sterling finally stopped letting her suffer and said, "It's fine now. From now on, things will be like before. Claire is still your sister-in-law."
Hearing Julian Sterling admit it out loud, Ruby Sterling grinned from ear to ear.
"Oh wow! That's really great. I knew I was smart. That solves the problem between you and Grandpa. But Julian, you'd better hurry up and make a baby with my sister-in-law, or ten months from now, where are we supposed to get a child for Grandpa?"
Julian Sterling's eyes darkened when he heard Ruby Sterling's words.
He had already started working hard at it last night. As for when there would actually be a child, that was no longer something he could control.
...
At the same time, Claire Bennett had already arrived at Bennett Group.
What she didn't expect to see was Queenie Quinn with a smug look on her face, and Victor Bennett looking stern. Behind them were quite a few Bennett Group employees. Claire Bennett found a few of them somewhat familiar, but she didn't know the others.
Everyone's eyes were on her, and quite a few of them looked like they were waiting to watch a show.
Only after Claire Bennett walked over did Queenie Quinn speak. "Your first day at Bennett Group and you're already late. How is an employee like you supposed to set an example? Everyone thinks that people with no sense of time usually don't have much integrity either."
Claire Bennett pressed her lips together and said nothing.
She really had arrived late, so there was nothing to argue about.
Ava Bennett had originally been somewhat unhappy about Claire Bennett joining the company, but she hadn't expected Claire Bennett to make a mistake all on her own.
"All right, Claire, come here." Victor Bennett spoke up, stopping Ava Bennett from continuing.
Claire Bennett felt grateful and walked over to his side.
When Ava Bennett saw that Victor Bennett was actually helping Claire Bennett, her expression instantly darkened.
Damn Claire Bennett. She'd only gotten Grandpa's approval to enter Bennett Group because of Julian Sterling's status. Now that Claire Bennett and Julian Sterling were already divorced, once she exposed the truth in front of Grandpa, Claire Bennett would be thrown out on her ass.
After thinking that over, Ava Bennett finally felt reassured.
Next, Victor Bennett introduced Claire Bennett's identity to everyone at Bennett Group. He said, "Everyone, this is the manager who officially starts today. I hope you'll all work together from now on."
Applause broke out, but some people privately thought very little of Claire Bennett.
On her first day, Claire Bennett didn't do any real work. She just sat in the office for a while, and soon it was time to get off work. She received a call from Julian Sterling. On the phone, he said he was coming to pick her up and take her somewhere.
By now, Claire Bennett had developed a conditioned reflex to Julian Sterling saying he was taking her somewhere.
She was always worried that some new problem would come up again, but after thinking it over carefully, she felt there probably wouldn't be that many surprises, so she relaxed.
