Chapter 492
You Lost to Miss Bennett
Sterling International's top-floor conference room.
Today Hazel Lewis was representing Nia, and Claire Bennett was representing Maison Verne. The two of them sat facing each other in the conference room. Although the air was quiet, there was somehow an invisible smell of gunpowder hanging over everything.
In the seat in the middle, Uncle Ming sat expressionless.
At an event like this, Old Mr. Sterling naturally wouldn't come in person. Sending Uncle Ming to attend was the same as representing him.
So Old Mr. Sterling could understand the results of the competition between the two sides, Uncle Ming had started a live video feed. Old Mr. Sterling's side remained black, but he could clearly see what was happening here.
Hazel Lewis's assistant shot Claire Bennett and Molly Lee a smug look. Seeing how calm the two of them looked, she couldn't help sneering, "How are you two still so calm? Maison Verne clearly lost to our Nia. Don't tell me you actually think you still have a chance of winning?"
A Nia employee beside her also showed a contemptuous expression and laughed. "Yeah, this time we absolutely crushed you. I've already arranged the victory party. When it's over, we can just head straight there."
Molly Lee quietly tugged at Claire Bennett and whispered in her ear, "The Nia side is so ridiculous. I secretly did the math. If we're only comparing regular sales, then yeah, we really can't beat them. But once you add in those three breakout designs from the famous designers, we completely crushed them."
Claire Bennett had already known the situation clearly in her heart. She nodded.
The other side was about to keep mocking them when Claire Bennett rolled her eyes and said coolly, "You're all really scrambling to defend your master, aren't you? It's not certain yet who's won and who's lost, so don't talk too soon."
When they heard Claire Bennett indirectly calling them dogs, their faces darkened with anger. "You! Who are you calling a dog?"
Claire Bennett smiled faintly. "Whoever answers to it."
"You...!"
Hazel Lewis hadn't expected Claire Bennett to be so sharp-tongued. She suppressed the viciousness in her eyes and stepped in to smooth things over. "All right, stop arguing. Let's wait for Uncle Ming to announce it."
Next, the materials from both sides were handed over to Uncle Ming.
He looked gravely at the sales figures submitted by the two departments, his expression stern.
At that point, no one continued talking. They were all looking at Uncle Ming, waiting for him to announce the final result.
At this moment, far away at the Sterling family home in New York.
Old Mr. Sterling and Old Mrs. Sterling were sitting on the living room sofa, and the two of them were also waiting for Uncle Ming to announce the answer.
Old Mrs. Sterling asked, "Old man, do you think Claire can win?"
"Hmph!" Old Mr. Sterling snorted disdainfully and said with contempt, "What capability does she have? From what I've seen, she's nothing special. If she can win, then I'll write my name backward!"
Just as Old Mr. Sterling finished speaking, Uncle Ming put down the materials in his hands.
His gaze swept over toward Hazel Lewis's side. Hazel Lewis thought he was about to announce that she had won, and she happily lifted her chin and puffed out her chest.
Unexpectedly, Uncle Ming said with a face full of regret, "Miss Lewis, I'm very sorry. In this competition between you and Miss Bennett, you lost!"
"What did you say!" The smile at Hazel Lewis's lips didn't have time to fade before it froze on her face.
Her voice was full of shock as she pressed, "You said I lost? How is that possible!"
The Nia executives beside Hazel Lewis also wore expressions of utter disbelief and said in unison, "Exactly. Nia's sales were clearly higher than Maison Verne's. How could we have lost? Did someone make a mistake?"
