Should We Go Get Checked
The sun was shining brightly today. To help Claire Bennett get used to the environment at the Sterling family home, Victor Bennett had specifically let her rest there. He gave Claire three days off, allowing her not to go to Bennett Group.
Claire felt a little helpless. Actually, she was still rather restrained when it came to facing Grandpa Sterling and Grandma Sterling.
Maybe back when she didn't know their identities, she hadn't been nearly this nervous. But now that she knew they didn't like her, it was only natural that she felt somewhat uncomfortable.
Julian Sterling had gone to Sterling Group to work early in the morning, so Claire was all by herself.
Lately Ruby Sterling had also been busy with her wedding to Cameron Quinn, and there was hardly any chance for her to come see Claire. Right now, Claire could only face everything on her own.
In the living room, the old Mrs. Sterling said to a maid, "Go bring out the stewed bird's nest for Claire to eat."
The maid immediately went downstairs when she heard that.
The old Mrs. Sterling said to Claire, "Claire, you need to eat more bird's nest now. Then the baby you give birth to will have fair skin. Eat more later."
When Claire heard that, she instantly felt guilty inside.
She could only suppress her panic and smile as she agreed to the old Mrs. Sterling's suggestion.
The current problem was that there was absolutely nothing in her belly at all, and she had no idea how much longer she could keep it hidden.
Some time ago, she and Julian had obviously been working very hard too, but there still hadn't been any good news. She was starting to wonder whether there was something wrong with her body. Maybe she should find a hospital and get checked out?
But she couldn't go get examined openly, or she might be found out.
In an instant, Claire had already prepared herself mentally and secretly decided to go get checked.
The old Mrs. Sterling suddenly thought of something and said, "Claire, in a few days it'll be my birthday. Your grandpa and I are planning to make a proper event of it. Come help out too."
Although, because of Quentin Sterling, the old Mrs. Sterling still had some misgivings about Claire.
But now Claire was also pregnant with a child of the Sterling family. Maybe in the future she would be joining the Sterling family, so it would be better to let her start getting used to all the twists and turns of a wealthy family now. That way there'd be less to worry about later.
Claire froze for a moment, then nodded and agreed.
That night, Julian Sterling came back. When Claire was in the room with him, she asked, "Julian Sterling, today your grandmother told me something. In a few days it'll be her birthday banquet, and she said she wants me to help prepare for it too."
"That's a good thing."
"A good thing?" Claire looked at him in surprise.
Julian Sterling curled his lips into a smile. "Although Grandma has some issues with you right now, deep down she still likes you a lot. This is also a good opportunity. You can use this event to build a better relationship with her. With her helping, things will be a little easier on Grandpa's side."
Claire suddenly understood. The old Mrs. Sterling really was much easier to talk to.
She sighed and said, "Alright then. I'll seriously prepare for this. Then I'll ask my dad for a few more days off."
Thinking of how delighted the old Mrs. Sterling had looked today while talking about her future great-grandchild, Claire said worriedly, "Today your grandmother seemed really excited about the baby. Is it really bad for us to deceive her like this?"
Julian Sterling raised an eyebrow and pulled Claire into his arms. "What's so bad about it?"
"This is going to be exposed someday. I'm scared. What if they find out?"
"Then make it real. That way, later on, we won't have to be afraid of them finding out."
Claire shot him an annoyed glare. "You have the nerve to say that? It's been so long and it still hasn't happened. Do you think there's something wrong with my body? Should we go get checked?"
