Chapter 543
Julian Sterling's Thoughts
Julian Sterling stayed silent for a long time. What Claire Bennett had just said had affected him quite a bit.
He lifted his eyes to look at Old Mr. Sterling and asked in a low voice, "Grandpa, is it that no matter what, Claire will never be good enough in your eyes?"
Old Mr. Sterling pressed his lips together tightly, and only after a long while did he say, "That's right! Stop doing these pointless things. No matter what you do, I will never let that woman hold you back again!"
"I understand."
Julian Sterling merely listened in silence, and then said only that one sentence. He looked up at Old Mr. Sterling. "Grandpa, thank you very much for raising me..."
Hearing Julian Sterling's words, Old Mr. Sterling's heart lurched, and he vaguely had a bad feeling.
What did he mean by that? What exactly was Julian Sterling trying to do?
"Grandpa, I know you've put a great deal of thought and effort into me, hoping that in the future I could support the Sterling family and become its pillar. But I still feel that if Claire isn't in the rest of my life, then it will have no meaning at all. So I may have to let you down. There are still quite a few outstanding younger members in the Sterling family. I hope Grandpa can consider someone else."
Old Mr. Sterling had originally thought Julian Sterling was going to argue with him for Claire Bennett's sake.
He had never expected that this was what he was about to say instead.
He didn't want to inherit the Sterling family anymore?
Old Mr. Sterling was both furious and enraged. He had not expected that woman Claire Bennett to have such a deep influence on Julian Sterling that he would go so far as to turn his back on the family at all costs.
But among the younger generation of the Sterling family, there really wasn't anyone who could surpass Julian Sterling. Otherwise, why would he have indulged him again and again?
At this moment, Ruby Sterling also walked back in, looking utterly dejected.
When she saw Old Mrs. Sterling sitting on the sofa in the living room, she asked curiously, "Grandma, why are you sitting here? Where are my brother and Grandpa?"
"They're talking in the room." Old Mrs. Sterling let out a faint sigh. Thinking about what had happened this time, she felt helpless.
"Sigh... I think this time things are really bad. My brother seems to have had a fight with Claire. Just now Claire said she'd already made things clear with my brother and that they're going to separate. I'm really worried about my brother." Ruby Sterling looked miserable as she said gloomily, "Because of this, my brother stayed at the company working nonstop for three days. If Claire really leaves my brother... he isn't going to do anything rash, is he?"
Old Mrs. Sterling's expression darkened. She stood up and said, "Ruby, come with me! We absolutely can't let anything like that happen to Julian."
As they spoke, the two of them headed together to Julian Sterling's room.
When they reached the door, they happened to hear the voices of Julian Sterling and Old Mr. Sterling coming from inside. Julian Sterling was saying that Old Mr. Sterling should choose another heir.
Ruby Sterling's face suddenly went white. "Oh no! What my brother said... why does it sound so much like last words? He can't really be thinking of doing something rash because of Claire, can he?"
At once, Ruby Sterling could no longer hold back and kicked the door open.
"Bro, you absolutely can't do anything rash! If something really happens to you, what are we supposed to do?"
Ruby Sterling rushed over and hugged Julian Sterling. "We can keep trying to win Claire back. Don't do anything rash because of this!"
Julian Sterling pushed Ruby Sterling away and said flatly, "I'm not doing anything rash."
He merely wanted to give up his right to inherit the Sterling family and start over on his own, even though that would be extremely difficult for him.
"Huh?" Ruby Sterling was dumbfounded. She muttered, "Weren't you unable to take it after Claire left?"
Old Mrs. Sterling let out a heavy sigh, feeling that for things to have come to this because of Claire Bennett was truly frustrating and helpless.
