Chapter 636
A Half-Baked Designer
Olivia Lawson didn't dare say anything. In fact, she also felt that Maison Verne had been like it was using cheat codes lately; every new design they released looked amazing, and she also thought Bennett Jewelry's pieces were ugly.
But she definitely didn't dare say that in front of Ava Bennett.
After a long while, Ava Bennett finally calmed down. She looked at Olivia Lawson and said, "Our designs have to be better. Go find me a truly talented designer right now. I don't care who it is. I'm willing to poach them with a high salary. As long as we can put out one blockbuster design, Bennett Group will be able to come back from the dead."
"Okay, I'll go look right away."
After getting Ava Bennett's instructions, Olivia Lawson immediately turned and went out.
Just as she stepped out the door and was about to leave, someone suddenly blocked her path. "I remember you. I saw you on TV. You're the assistant to the person in charge of Bennett Jewelry, and your last name is Lawson, right? Assistant Lawson, I want to see the person in charge of Bennett Jewelry."
Olivia Lawson stopped and looked at the man who had suddenly appeared in front of her. He was wearing faded, worn-out clothes, his jeans had several holes in them, and even his hair was too long and hung messily over his face. He looked utterly down-and-out, practically no different from a homeless man.
"Who are you? Do you think just anyone gets to see our manager? If you don't leave now, I'm calling security!"
Disgust appeared on Olivia Lawson's face. She backed away several steps, afraid this homeless man might touch her.
The homeless man immediately said, "I'm sorry. I just want to see your manager. I have something very important to tell her."
"Stop making trouble here and leave right now, or I'll call the police!"
Olivia Lawson had no intention of listening to this homeless man at all. Disgust showed on her face as she took out her phone and called the security office, telling them to come up and drive him out.
Before long, security arrived. Olivia Lawson said angrily, "How are you people guarding the entrance? You even let a homeless man in. If anything in our company gets stolen, can you take responsibility for that?"
The security staff apologized over and over. "Sorry, Assistant Lawson. We'll throw him out right away."
The homeless man was lifted up by the security guards, who were about to toss him out.
As he struggled, he shouted, "Let me go! I really have something very important to discuss with the person in charge of Bennett Jewelry..."
At that moment, Ava Bennett had just gotten a call from Hannah Bennett saying they had found Ethan Sterling at a shopping mall and telling her to hurry over right away.
Even though Ethan Sterling had publicly distanced himself from her last time, Ava Bennett still didn't want to give up such a valuable asset as Ethan Sterling. She was still willing to swallow her pride and go coax him.
She came out carrying her purse, about to rush to the shopping mall, when she unexpectedly saw this noisy commotion. Her face darkened, and she asked coldly, "What are you doing? What's going on?"
When Olivia Lawson saw Ava Bennett, she immediately said, "Manager Bennett, this homeless man somehow snuck into our company just now. I'm having security throw him out immediately."
The moment the homeless man saw Ava Bennett, he became agitated. He forcefully shook off the security guards holding him and hurriedly charged toward Ava Bennett.
When Ava Bennett saw the man rushing at her, her face turned fearful, and she screamed, "Grab him, now! Stop him!"
The security guards behind him immediately seized the homeless man and pinned him hard to the ground. "Behave yourself. You actually dare try to harm our manager? You've got some nerve!"
With difficulty, the homeless man raised his head and looked at Ava Bennett. "Manager Bennett, I have lots of designs here. If you hire me, I can give them all to you."
Ava Bennett swept a contemptuous glance over him and sneered. "You have lots of designs? You don't look anything like a designer. I think you're just a scammer. You actually dared come to my company to swindle people. Throw him out right now!"
After saying that, she looked at Olivia Lawson beside her and instructed, "Olivia Lawson, strengthen the company's security lately. Don't let people like this slip in."
"Yes, Manager Bennett. I'll keep an eye on it."
Ava Bennett strode away without the slightest hesitation, not sparing the homeless man on the ground another glance.
Very soon, the man was thrown out by the people from Bennett Jewelry.
The security guards looked at the man lying on the ground and spat coldly. "If you dare sneak into our company again, we'll beat you to death. Now get the hell out of here."
After saying that, the two turned and left.
The man pitifully climbed to his feet. His face was full of bitterness and pain, his eyes brimming with despair, and his whole body sagged in defeat.
"What do I do? What am I supposed to do..." he muttered in a low voice.
The man wandered aimlessly forward. Just then, he saw a jewelry commercial playing on a nearby television. At the end of the ad, the words Maison Verne appeared.
He stood still in front of the screen, staring, and then the commercial started playing again.
When he saw the jewelry being displayed, he revealed a contemptuous smile and said, "This design isn't bad, but it's still not perfect. If the edge setting were removed and it were reshaped with an openwork technique, it would show off the beauty of this gemstone even more perfectly. It would definitely be better than it is now. What a pity..."
He had thought he was just talking to himself, but unexpectedly, Molly Lee happened to hear him.
She had come out to buy lunch and stopped to admire the ad they had placed after being drawn in by it. She hadn't expected to hear this person muttering there.
Molly Lee remembered this piece of jewelry. It had been designed personally by Claire Bennett and had received quite a bit of praise.
And yet this man was evaluating it like this.
She sized the man up. At first glance, he really did look like a homeless man, but on closer inspection, although his clothes were faded and old, he himself still looked fairly clean.
Molly Lee now worshiped Claire Bennett as her idol, so how could she possibly tolerate someone speaking badly of her?
She immediately said to the homeless man, "What nonsense are you talking about! Our boss designed this herself. This piece is our current bestseller."
Hearing Molly Lee's words, the man raised his eyes to look at her and asked in confusion, "Your boss?"
"That's right!" Molly Lee planted her hands on her hips and huffed. "You half-baked hack, do you even know anything about jewelry design? And yet you're criticizing Maison Verne's designs. That's just ridiculous!"
After saying that, Molly Lee lifted her lunch box and was about to leave.
Unexpectedly, the man seemed to remember something and suddenly stepped forward and grabbed her.
