Side Story: The Continuation of Love 2 (Continued)

So they could spend time with their great-granddaughter, the two elders resolutely gave up their wonderful life in the countryside and moved back to the Sterling family home, all so they could see the child every day and play with her a little.

Claire Bennett wasn't worried about the child at all, because there were far too many relatives and friends all fighting over who got to spoil her.

By the time little Lucy could walk, she was already incredibly lovable. Every day, she would toddle crookedly toward old Madam Sterling and old Mr. Sterling, and the sight of it softened both their hearts so completely they wished they could rush over, scoop her into their arms, and cover her with kisses.

Not long after that, little Lucy started learning to talk, and everyone was waiting for her to open her mouth.

Ruby Sterling even set up a bet on who she'd call first.

Of course, she bet on herself.

To make sure she could win, Ruby came running over to the Sterling family home every day and kept teasing little Lucy. "Little tyrant, hurry up and call me Auntie! If you call me Auntie, I'll give you candy."

Lucy Sterling merely gave Ruby a bland look, then withdrew her gaze and went back to playing with the toy in her hands.

Being completely ignored, Ruby felt like she'd suffered a severe blow. Why did her brother's daughter seem to have exactly the same personality as him?

They were both bullying her!

But Ruby still didn't give up. Lucy still hadn't started talking yet, so she still had a chance to win. She pulled out other things to coax Lucy Sterling, trying to get her to call her first so she could show off in front of her brother later.

To her surprise, after coaxing her for ages, little Lucy still just played with her toy and couldn't even be bothered to lift her head.

Ruby muttered gloomily, "Why isn't she talking? She isn't autistic, is she?"

When old Madam Sterling heard that, she smacked Ruby hard on the head. "What nonsense are you spouting? Little Lucy is very smart. She just doesn't want to pay attention to you. Stop disrupting her here. If you really like children that much, then you and Cameron Quinn can go have one yourselves!"

Hearing old Madam Sterling's words, Ruby's cheeks instantly turned red.

Ever since she'd realized her own feelings at Claire Bennett's wedding, the way she looked at Cameron Quinn had already changed.

But that man seemed not to feel a thing, and she had no idea whether Cameron Quinn liked her. What scared her even more was that one day he might find a woman he did like, and then she'd have to pack up and leave.

Just as Ruby was feeling dejected, the door suddenly opened, and Julian Sterling walked in, dressed sharply in a perfectly tailored suit.

The moment Claire Bennett saw him come back, she immediately stood up and walked over to take the suit jacket from his hand, asking softly, "Honey, was work busy today? How do you feel?"

Because she had to look after the child, Claire Bennett almost never went to the company anymore. She could handle Maison Verne's business from home, and aside from occasionally going out to inspect the stores, there wasn't much else she needed to worry about.

When Julian Sterling saw Claire Bennett, a gentle look surfaced in his eyes, and then he said softly, "Mm, not bad."

No matter how hard things got, seeing Claire Bennett and their child made all the exhaustion worth it. He was now incomparably grateful that when Claire Bennett had been unconscious, he'd come to his senses and decided to create good living conditions for her.

Otherwise, they would probably still be suffering, cramped together in that tiny apartment. Fortunately, everything had passed and the skies had cleared.

Julian Sterling reached out, wanting to pull Claire Bennett into his arms and kiss her, but just then, Lucy Sterling suddenly tossed aside the toy in her hand and ran toward Julian Sterling on her little short legs.

She wrapped herself around Julian Sterling's leg and tilted up her little head. "Daddy, up."

When Ruby heard that little milky voice, she widened her eyes in shock.

She cried out, "Oh my God! Little tyrant can talk now! I can't believe the first person she called was my brother!"

Only then did everyone realize that Lucy Sterling really had just spoken. She'd asked Julian Sterling to pick her up. Julian Sterling crouched down and swept Lucy Sterling into his arms. After her dad picked her up, Lucy planted a kiss on his cheek and left behind a patch of drool.

Looking at the daddy she loved most, little Lucy giggled happily.

Julian Sterling's eyes softened. The child in front of him had Claire Bennett's brows and eyes, but overall she still looked very much like him. She was the continuation of their love, and the proof of their love.

He kissed Lucy Sterling and said, "Lucy, call Daddy one more time?"

"Daddy." This time, Lucy Sterling pronounced it clearly and correctly, proving that what she'd said just now hadn't been accidental at all. She really could call Julian Sterling Daddy. The first person she spoke to was Julian Sterling.

Ruby looked utterly dejected. She had indeed lost, and she'd lost miserably.

Claire Bennett stood to the side, watching the father and daughter in each other's arms, and a happy smile curved at the corners of her lips.
