Chapter 76
The Bennett Family Arrives Late
"Money? In your dreams!" Naomi Pierce gritted out. "This is all because you two botched the job. Couldn't you have checked the video beforehand?"
Hearing Naomi Pierce shove all the blame onto them, Luna Brooks and Meng Lifen instantly got mad.
They looked scornful and snapped back without any courtesy, "You said that video was of Kevin Parker and Claire Bennett. Of course we weren't going to doubt it."
"Exactly. How were we supposed to know you'd get that wild with Kevin Parker, and then take it out on us? That's just ridiculous! If you're going to blame someone, blame yourself!"
Hearing Luna Brooks and Meng Lifen say that, Naomi Pierce felt even more choked with fury.
She wanted to have the two of them get out immediately and stop hanging around in front of her.
Just then, there was a knock at the door.
Naomi Pierce shot them a look. "Go open it."
The two of them were unwilling. By now they no longer wanted to do anything for Naomi Pierce, but the knocking at the door kept coming, so with no other choice, Luna Brooks walked over and opened it.
Outside stood a maid from the manor castle. She said, "Miss Pierce, someone has arrived outside. He says he's here on behalf of the Bennett family to deliver a gift."
What!
Naomi Pierce's eyes flew wide open, full of disbelief. Could it be that after the video came out, she now also had to suffer the blow of having her identity exposed?
Then suddenly, as if thinking of something, she hurriedly asked, "Who came? A man or a woman?"
If the person from the Bennett family wasn't Victor Bennett, then she still had hope!
The maid said, "It's a man."
Naomi Pierce lightly bit her lip. Was the man Victor Bennett or someone else?
Her heart was full of uncertainty, but in the end she still decided to go out and take a look. Things had already reached this point; it couldn't get any worse.
Naomi Pierce dragged her aching body outside the banquet hall.
By now, more than half the guests in the banquet hall had already left, with only a scattered few remaining.
At the entrance stood a man in a suit, with two tall bodyguards behind him. In their hands they carried several gift boxes.
The guests who hadn't left yet showed puzzled surprise in their eyes when they saw them.
Could there be yet another twist at Ethan Sterling's engagement banquet?
At that moment, someone reminded them, "Did you forget? There were rumors going around before that Naomi Pierce is the Bennett family's daughter, and Ethan Sterling is the Bennett family's son-in-law. So tell me... could these people be from the Bennett family?"
As soon as those words fell, everyone's expressions instantly turned strange.
They had assumed it was fake, after all, things had gotten so heated just now and the Bennett family had never shown up.
Everyone stopped in their tracks, wanting to see what exactly was going on.
"Come to think of it, I'd forgotten about that. Tanya Sterling kept showing off about it."
"I thought he was marrying some fake social climber. Looking at this, could it actually be true?"
"I think I've seen this guy before. A few days ago, when Victor Bennett attended that charity event, this man was right beside Mrs. Bennett. He is from the Bennett family!"
Amid the buzz of discussion, Naomi Pierce walked out.
She looked at the man standing there, confusion rising in her eyes. She didn't recognize him.
When the man saw the maid who had just delivered the message standing beside Naomi Pierce, a trace of suspicion flashed across his face. Could she be the Bennett family's eldest daughter?
Suppressing the shock in his heart, he asked seriously, "Are you... the eldest miss?"
Naomi Pierce was startled inside, but she forcibly calmed herself and asked in return, "And you are?"
Hearing Naomi Pierce respond, the man felt that he had probably found the right person.
He respectfully stepped forward, smiling as he said, "Hello, Eldest Miss. I am Luke Ward, the Bennett family's butler. I only joined the Bennett family in the past few years, so you probably haven't met me."
