Chapter 83
My Business Is Not for Others to Decide
Claire Bennett looked at Ruby Sterling pointing at the tent beside them, and her expression stiffened for a moment.
What did she mean by that?
Weren't Ruby Sterling and she supposed to sleep in the same tent tonight?
Ruby Sterling wanted to sleep with Julian Sterling's buddy?
Under Claire Bennett's suspicious gaze, Ruby Sterling put on a look like she was bravely walking to her execution and clasped her hands together as she looked in Cameron Quinn's direction.
In a lowered voice, she said, "Claire, actually I've never told you this, but I... I've had a crush on him for a long time. Just give me a chance and help me out, okay?"
"Huh?" Claire Bennett was stunned.
Ruby Sterling and Cameron Quinn?
She hadn't expected Ruby Sterling to have thoughts like that.
Claire Bennett said, "Didn't you just say you two weren't close?"
Ruby Sterling said without changing expression, "I only said that because I was embarrassed!"
Claire Bennett continued, "Then what about Chase Monroe?"
"He..." Ruby Sterling gritted her teeth and simply said, "Because Cameron Quinn left the country a long time ago, Chase Monroe was a stand-in I found while I was missing Cameron Quinn! I don't actually like Chase Monroe at all."
Claire Bennett was half-convinced, half-doubtful.
Well, even though Cameron Quinn and Chase Monroe were kind of far apart, she still hoped her good friend could find happiness.
So Claire Bennett stopped being coy, gathered up all the things, and went into the tent next door.
Ruby Sterling let out a breath of relief.
But very quickly her face fell again. For her brother's happiness, she had sacrificed way too much!
Fortunately, Cameron Quinn was like her brother anyway. What was there to be embarrassed about in sleeping with her own brother?
At this moment, under the canopy not far away, Julian Sterling was arranging the ingredients they were going to barbecue, while Cameron Quinn was in charge of starting the fire beside him.
As Cameron Quinn fanned the flame, he glanced over at Ruby Sterling and Claire Bennett crawling into the tent and asked, "A whirlwind marriage, camping? Life's been pretty colorful for President Sterling lately..."
Julian Sterling lifted his eyes and gave him a cool glance. "Tonight I'm having Claire sleep with Ruby."
The moment Cameron Quinn heard that, he immediately shut up.
That was ruthless of him.
He was a little curious, though. He'd heard that the old Mr. Sterling had always been looking for daughters from prominent families for Julian Sterling, hoping to find a qualified mistress of the house.
But Julian Sterling hadn't even given those so-called society girls a proper look, and now he'd suddenly had a whirlwind marriage with Claire Bennett. It really wasn't his style.
Could there be some hidden reason?
Cameron Quinn had already learned Claire Bennett's basic situation just now, and he reminded him earnestly, "Julian, the old man's standards are sky-high. A family background like that won't get through the doors of the Sterling family."
For someone with Julian Sterling's status, especially with old Mr. Sterling entrusting him with such important responsibilities, he was bound to obey the family's arrangements and enter into a business marriage. The Sterling family would never let him fool around.
Julian Sterling said casually, "My business is not for others to decide."
Cameron Quinn gave a quiet snort inwardly. Unless Julian Sterling could truly take control of the Sterling family, he could forget about escaping the old man's control.
Julian Sterling knew what he was thinking. He patted Cameron Quinn on the shoulder, then let his gaze fall on Ruby Sterling as he said meaningfully, "Your brother-in-law can only help you this much. Make good use of it."
Hearing that, Cameron Quinn quickly laughed.
He hadn't expected Ruby Sterling to have broken up with that gold-digger guy. He felt like he had hope again.
Next, the four of them started barbecuing. Claire Bennett sat beside Julian Sterling, her little hands busy turning the skewers.
Julian Sterling glanced at her face, rosy red from the charcoal fire. There was a bit of sweat on her forehead, so he pulled out a tissue and wiped it away for her.
"Th-thank you..."
With a satisfied smile at the corners of her lips, Ruby Sterling propped up her chin and watched the two of them interacting with shining eyes.
So exciting! She could finally ship Claire Bennett and her brother up close. She almost wanted to throw her head back and laugh to the sky.
Suddenly, Ruby Sterling remembered what Julian Sterling had said. He'd said that based on Claire Bennett's various reactions after Ethan Sterling's engagement banquet, it seemed like she still couldn't let go of Ethan Sterling.
Ruby Sterling cleared her throat and asked nosily, "Claire, I have a question I want to ask you."
