Chapter 90
Does She Understand Julian Sterling?
Watching Sean Shaw's agitated expression, Claire Bennett's eyes held a trace of confusion.
Did she understand Julian Sterling?
Actually, she and Julian Sterling had only spent a short time together. She felt that this man was very gentlemanly, and he gave her a complete sense of security.
But after Sean Shaw asked that question, she realized that she really didn't know Julian Sterling all that well.
He said he had a younger sister, his only family member.
But she had never seen that younger sister, and he also hadn't told her that he had been quietly seeing Miss Hayes in private.
At the end of the day, Julian Sterling hadn't taken her seriously either. It had all just been her own wishful thinking.
The more Claire Bennett thought about it, the worse her expression became.
She felt that whatever feelings she had for Julian Sterling might only have been because she was in a fragile, sensitive state after being betrayed by Ethan Sterling. When someone just happened to appear and show her a little kindness, she mistook that gratitude for affection.
Sean Shaw was still a good older brother. Seeing that Claire Bennett looked like she was about to cry, he realized his tone had been too harsh.
"Claire, I'm not scolding you. I just don't want you to be deceived. Running into one Ethan Sterling was miserable enough. If there's another one..."
Claire Bennett immediately retorted, "He's different."
She instinctively began speaking up for Julian Sterling.
She didn't know why, but she just felt that Julian Sterling was different from Ethan Sterling.
"You! You're seriously driving me to death. With a pig brain like yours, if you don't get tricked ten or eight times, you won't come to your senses."
She hadn't expected to get scolded, and Claire Bennett felt deeply wronged.
She had only said one fair word for Julian Sterling.
Did Sean Shaw really have to curse her out like this?
"Ethan Sterling is a hypocrite, but Julian Sterling isn't that kind of person. From the first day I met him, I felt he was different."
"How is he different?"
Claire Bennett said, "He just feels different."
Hearing that, Sean Shaw was about to die of anger. Claire Bennett was judging whether a person was good or bad based on her sixth sense alone?
She even thought Julian Sterling was different from Ethan Sterling. Julian Sterling was indeed better than Ethan Sterling in terms of family background and every other aspect, but he wasn't serious about her at all. He just wanted to play with Claire Bennett!
Still, he was a little curious about how exactly Julian Sterling had tricked her.
Sean Shaw asked, "How did you end up with him?"
"My best friend Ruby is that President Sterling's younger sister. After Ethan Sterling betrayed me, she helped find someone for me, and later we signed... we had a whirlwind marriage."
Claire Bennett had almost blurted out the fact that she and Julian Sterling had signed a contract. She reacted quickly and immediately changed her words.
An impatient look appeared on Sean Shaw's face. Disappointed that she hadn't lived up to his hopes, he said, "Fine, I won't try to persuade you anymore. You probably won't listen anyway, but I still have to remind you of one thing."
"That so-called good friend of yours, and that man, both of them have bad intentions toward you. Stay away from them from now on!"
"Ruby is my best friend. She would never hurt me."
Claire Bennett was still certain about that point. After all, she hadn't just met Ruby today. She was very confident that Ruby's character wasn't bad.
Hearing that, Sean Shaw became worked up all over again.
He wanted nothing more than to pry open Claire Bennett's head and see what was inside. She'd probably still foolishly help count the money after being sold off someday.
That so-called best friend of hers knew Julian Sterling's identity and yet hadn't told her.
Today, he absolutely had to give Claire Bennett a proper warning and make her more vigilant.
Sean Shaw gritted his teeth and said, "The man you found isn't the ordinary person you think he is, and he's not some driver either. He is..."
"Still not done talking?" a deep, magnetic voice rang out.
Julian Sterling's tall, striking figure appeared by Claire Bennett's side at just the right moment, directly cutting off Sean Shaw's words.
Earlier, while waiting in the booth with Ruby Sterling, the more he looked at Sean Shaw, the more familiar he seemed. Then it suddenly came back to him: when he had accompanied his grandfather to a cocktail party, he had seen this man before.
The young master of the New York Shaw family. Not exactly a top-tier wealthy family, but his background wasn't bad either, and he remembered that this man had a fiancée.
To still come and flirt with his woman when he already had a fiancée—he really had some nerve.
Apparently Claire Bennett didn't know about that, which was why this man had her completely wrapped around his finger.
When Julian Sterling saw him pull Claire Bennett aside to talk, he instinctively felt a little uneasy, as though whatever he was about to say had something to do with him.
Sure enough, after he came over, he heard the conversation between this man and Claire Bennett.
What did he want to say? Expose his identity?
Tell Claire Bennett that he had been lying to her all along, make her angry, and turn her against him?
Whichever it was, he couldn't let him succeed.
Claire Bennett came back to herself and remembered the words Sean Shaw had been interrupted in the middle of saying. She asked, "Sean, what were you about to say just now?"
"I was saying that the man beside you is no good."
Sean Shaw looked straight at Julian Sterling without the slightest attempt to hide it, his eyes full of hostility.
Claire Bennett's face instantly turned awkward.
How could Sean Shaw say something like that right in front of Julian Sterling? It was basically insulting someone to his face.
Julian Sterling wasn't angry. Instead, the corners of his lips curled slightly upward.
He really wasn't a good person.
"Ju-Julian Sterling, Sean was just joking. Don't take it to heart." Feeling a little guilty, Claire Bennett hurriedly apologized on Sean Shaw's behalf.
Julian Sterling nodded. His gaze fell on Claire Bennett as he said mildly, "Go back and sit down first. Mr. Shaw and I may have some misunderstandings. Let us talk."
Sean Shaw had just been full of hostility toward Julian Sterling, so Claire Bennett couldn't help feeling worried. These two weren't going to start fighting if they disagreed, were they?
Sean Shaw also let out a cold laugh. Talk, then talk. Who was afraid of whom?
He said, "Claire, go back and sit down."
With both of them saying so, Claire Bennett couldn't stay. She sighed and said, "Then you two talk. If... anything comes up, talk it out properly."
After saying that, she turned and went back to the booth.
