Chapter 93
You Have to Believe in Yourself
Julian Sterling's eyes darkened heavily, a faint cold gleam shifting in their depths. "He doesn't have a chance anymore."
"Fine, even if he doesn't have a chance, before Claire falls for you, you still can't act rashly. What if Claire runs off?"
Ruby Sterling suddenly thought of something and asked a little fearfully, "Say... if Claire finds out you've been lying to her this whole time, and even used your status to do something as underhanded and despicable as forcing other men away, will she end up hating you for it?"
Claire Bennett hated being deceived most of all.
It wasn't impossible, especially when there was already a man hidden in her heart.
From what Ruby knew of Claire, she wasn't a woman who craved wealth and vanity. She would definitely run without looking back.
"No, I think we still can't let Claire know your identity. We have to keep it from her!"
Julian Sterling: "..."
Underhanded and despicable? Was that really supposed to describe him?
All warfare is based on deception. So what if he used a few tactics?
At this moment, Claire still didn't know what Julian Sterling and Ruby Sterling had talked about. She and Sean Shaw walked over to a corner off to the side.
She shook off Sean Shaw. "Sean, what exactly are you trying to do?"
Sean Shaw asked directly, "Claire, what exactly do you think of that man?"
"Wh-what do I think..." Claire Bennett felt guilty for a moment. Thinking of how she and Julian Sterling would divorce in a year, she wanted to brush it off. "I don't think anything of him. We're just..."
"Don't even think about lying!" Sean Shaw cut Claire off. He snorted. "When you lied as a kid, your ears would turn red. Right now they're redder than a baboon's ass."
"..."
Claire took a deep breath and said honestly, "Fine. I actually do have a bit of a crush on him, but we're probably not very likely to work out. Maybe before long we'll be separating..."
She didn't want to deceive Sean Shaw, either.
Their beginning had been based on an agreement, and now there was also that Miss Hayes in the picture. It really didn't seem likely that they would end up together.
And Sean Shaw's reminder was right. She felt she needed to figure out clearly whether her feelings for Julian Sterling were really because she had been moved after Ethan Sterling's betrayal.
A moment of passion could not last forever.
Sean Shaw's brows knitted tightly, and it was impossible to tell what he was thinking.
A moment later, he looked at Claire and started cheering her on. "Claire, you have to believe in yourself!"
"Huh?" Claire looked completely baffled.
"You're not lacking at all. Maybe if you really work at it, you could even become Mrs. Sterling." Sean Shaw's meaning was obvious.
If that happened, it would be great.
Julian Sterling looked far better than Ethan Sterling, no matter how you looked at it.
Sean Shaw felt that Claire was no worse than those rich young ladies in New York. If she put in some effort, she would definitely be able to sit in that position all women envied. As for everything else, that wasn't a problem at all.
After hearing Sean Shaw's words, Claire hesitated, wanting to speak but stopping herself.
The man already had a girlfriend. No matter how much she liked him, she couldn't do something immoral.
Still, Claire felt that Sean Shaw was only making that suggestion because he was worried about her, so in the end she said nothing.
After a moment, she nodded absentmindedly.
Sean Shaw patted Claire on the shoulder and said, "All right, I'm heading back to New York. Live well."
"And you don't need to worry about your uncle-in-law. I'll talk to him..."
"Sean, can you not tell my dad about Julian Sterling? I don't want my dad to know. Don't tell him!"
After all, they were getting divorced in a year.
If Victor Bennett found out about this, who knew what kind of mess it would cause. Claire still wanted to keep it from him.
Sean Shaw hesitated for a moment, but thinking of those enticing terms, he still gritted his teeth and agreed.
"All right! I won't tell your dad. If you run into any problem you can't solve, call me. I'll fly over immediately and back you up."
"Okay, thank you, Sean."
After saying that, Sean Shaw waved at Claire and left.
Ruby Sterling was talking with Julian Sterling when she saw the two separate, and they immediately stopped their discussion.
Seeing Claire walk back with a grave expression, Ruby shot Julian Sterling a look.
Who knew what the two of them had just talked about.
That man had taken the benefits, so he probably wouldn't expose her brother's situation, right?
Ruby asked in a casual tone, "Claire, what were you talking about with him?"
"Nothing much. Sean had work to get back to, so he left first."
"Let's go." Julian Sterling pulled open the car door.
Claire got into the back seat of the car.
Julian Sterling first dropped Ruby off at the Sterling family home, then took Claire back with him to their little apartment.
On the way, Claire kept thinking about what Sean Shaw had said before leaving. She felt that his change in attitude was strange.
The key issue was what happened after his private conversation with Julian Sterling.
So what exactly had they talked about?
After hesitating for a while, Claire finally asked the question that had occupied her mind for so long. "Julian Sterling, what did you say to Sean just now?"
Julian Sterling rested a hand on the steering wheel and said casually, "What do you think we talked about?"
"..." If she knew, why the hell would she ask?
With a sigh, Claire said, "Sean seemed pretty hostile toward you before, but after you two talked for a while, he suddenly changed completely. I'm really curious what exactly you said."
Julian Sterling frowned slightly. He actually wanted very much to tell Claire that the white moonlight in her heart was no good man at all, that for a little profit he could sell her out without hesitation.
Claire really didn't have very good taste in men.
