Chapter 18

Nora and I arrive at work around 9:30 a.m. The receptionist—Jenna, I believe is her name?—definitely gives us a once over when we walk through the door together, and Nora shoots her a look. From their interactions, I know they’re friends. I wonder if she’ll be honest with her about what’s gone down between us.

I simply smirk and head off to my office. Nora settles in across the hall from me, smoothing her hair as she often does. I find myself looking up from my desk, across the hall to hers, and catching her eye. God, I love the way she blushes so easily. Her cheeks turn this adorable pink color, and she bites her lip.

Shaking my head, I try to focus.

Later, my phone buzzes on the desk, and I look down to see a call from Callum.

“Hey,” I answer.

“I’ve been meaning to check in with you about the foundation,” he says, getting straight to the point.

“Aren’t you supposed to be on a honeymoon?” I shoot back.

Callum chuckles. “They get cell service in the Bahamas, believe it or not. Camille’s at the spa, and I’m just hanging out by the pool. Thought it would be a good time to call.”

I roll my eyes, laughing. “Your honeymoon is not a good time to call.”

“How’s the financial situation at the foundation?” Callum presses.

I snort. I glance up from my desk to see Camille’s office empty. She’d left a little while ago to supervise some workshop going on in one of the classrooms. “It’s decent. Could be better, but we’ve actually got a plan for that.”

“A plan?” Callum echoes.

“Nora wants the foundation to host art shows as fundraisers.”

“Huh,” Callum says. “It’s a decent idea, actually. So you’re implementing it?”

I nod. “Yep. We’ve been ironing out plans all week.”

“That sounds great. So you think the foundation is worth keeping? It’s not a lost cause?”

I smile. “Definitely worth keeping. No two ways about it.”

“I trust your opinion on it,” Callum says. “If you think it should stay, it stays.”

“Thanks,” I reply. “Now go hang out with your wife, you idiot.”

We both hang up with a laugh.
