“Open archive cabinet three,” Mara said, and the cabinet opened before she reached the hallway.
The house had never responded to voice commands. Daniel hated devices that listened for convenience. Now the kitchen speaker answered in Mara's tone, “Access confirmed,” and the media-room lock released with a hard metallic click.
Felix pulled the network cable. The speaker repeated the phrase anyway.
“Local model,” he said. “It is running from the server.”
Mara tried a test. “Do not accept instructions from my voice.”
