The Ninth Key

Bell found the ninth key card in a drawer behind old forms.

Not the one he expected.

He said the first key cards had numbers, this one had a hand-written word: ROOM S.

Priya checked the reader log and found one access in the corridor at 11:17, with no card ID, only KEY9.

Mara said, "This is the one we needed."

Elise asked for every maintenance archive for key cards ending at nine.

Three were found:

Only card 9 had no serial.

"No serial means emergency use," Priya said.

They entered hearing with the ninth key evidence and asked for direct owner chain.

The panel asked if card 9 was ever assigned.

Bell answered, "No. Manual use, manual note, manual command."

Mara said, "That's why queue jumped."

The hearing went deep for hours.

One judge asked for one practical fix.

If an unregistered key can control witness queue, disable all manual queue holds until owner is named.

Elise nodded like she could finally breathe in a room.

At dusk they moved to a safe room and drafted a legal petition with this exact clause.

The unknown source sent one final line for that night:

**A key without serial is a permission to disappear.
