The Roomful of Lies
The room had no walls this time.
Only microphones and a dozen small lights.
Bell said the archive annex had been "roomful configured" two days ago.
Elise asked what that meant.
"Every sensor now points at witness seats whether occupied or not."
Priya mapped each sensor.
Five pointed directly at Chair F.
Three at the blind corners.
One at a sealed panel where the hidden corridor meets the stairwell.
Elise replayed the first hallway recordings and noticed all late voices were actually recorded from that same panel.
She called a pause and asked the room’s technician if they could lower one sensor.
The technician said no, because the system would flag manual change.
"Manual changes are what we need," Bell replied.
Priya sent a command from an external test terminal to force low sensitivity on non-essential sensors.
The room stayed silent for three minutes.
Then one line arrived from Chair F itself:
Witness seat can exist without person.
No one in the room looked up.
Elise recorded every second manually.
The hearing was delayed again, and the system posted another message:
Roomful protocol active.
Elise sent the protocol text to the court.
The prosecutor asked if this was a theory or a known standard.
Priya showed the same term in municipal procedures.
There, it meant:
if witness reliability under dispute, increase sensor coverage.
Elise said, "Increase coverage became increase certainty."
By late afternoon, they found the installer log:

One entry only.
No staff.
At home, Priya brought one final photo from the annex wall.
Paint peeled around a seam shaped like an ear.
Elise wrote:
A roomful of lies is still a roomful of architecture.
She deleted the backup and turned the panel off.
