The Room Is Witness
The judge entered late and the courtroom lights flicked on one by one, almost theatrically.
Elise used the delay to stand with Priya and Bell in the corridor.
Priya asked if they were now simply trying to prove a room was manipulating, not that someone did.
Elise said yes, and then corrected herself:
No. We are proving someone used a room as witness. That is different.
At session, she requested all current exhibits be linked to named entities.
One by one, three files had no named entities and still carried legal priority.
She requested the chain and got one statement:
Witness generated by room context.
Bell whispered: "That is the most direct admission."
The panel asked for a proposed remedy.
Elise gave one:

- require visible person identity for each process node,
- freeze auto-restore from room templates.
The room seemed to hold its breath.
Priya gave a soft nod and projected a timeline from 125 to 173.
Every key node now had a red line: no-person ownership.
Elise added the final line:
Room cannot be witness unless it gives testimony and names the one who built it.
The hearing room was quiet for eight seconds, then moved to recess.
Outside, a cleaner passing said she had noticed oddly warm doors.
Elise smiled without joy.
There is nothing warm about a room waiting to be obeyed.
At home, she put her pen down.
For the first time in weeks, she wrote one sentence as a title for her next chapter:
The room is witness only after a person agrees to own the room.
