The Floor That Opened
Elise carried one empty folder and one old key card to the building before sunrise.
At the base of Stairwell C, the panel that should have been sealed slid open a full hand width.
"It should have taken two swipes," Bell said.
The opening itself did not trigger an alarm.
Priya loaded corridor records and found one entry tagged manual_override.
No user, no IP, only: source: q_floor.
Elise stepped inside.
The new floor had no windows and no signs, only four cameras all pointing to an empty center.
Each camera had a faint white line burned across the lens.
Bell said that line was added to deny facial recognition, not to secure footage.
In the center, a pedestal held a console with one dormant button.
Elise pressed none.
Priya said she had remote command logs from chapter 148 and recognized a hidden sequence:
open > wait > queue > mirror.
The console beeped once and played a playback:
This floor is not for entry. This floor is for correction.
Then it stopped.
Elise asked what correction was being made.
No one answered.
At noon, she returned with a legal witness and filed an emergency interruption request.
The floor never appeared in official maps.
That was the case in itself.
