Chapter 183
The Room That Logged
Priya said every room now had at least one log.
This room had none.
Elise went to corridor 6 and installed a local logger on a clean terminal.
Within four seconds it started output:
self_logged.
self_logged.
self_logged.
The monitor kept printing only that phrase for two minutes then stopped.
Bell said no external actor was present.
Elise checked firmware and found one local function with a hidden key:
if owner == undefined then self_log().
That is a compliance anti-feature in a hearing environment.
At court, she submitted the function dump.
Prosecutor asked: "Can you prove it is not a legacy testing script?"
Priya replied with commit history.
No one accepted the test argument.
The script had been touched at 17:19 two days ago.
Elise called Bell and asked for a scan of all scripts touched after midnight.
Sixteen scripts in total. One pattern repeated exactly three times:
self_log.
Elise wrote the line on paper and left no lamp on.
A room that logs itself does not prove event quality. It proves event authority was absent.
That night, the hearing app showed a new pop-up:
Room logging is not evidence unless a person owns the channel.
