Chapter 186
The Shift Notice
At 7:00 exactly a printed notice appeared on Priya's desk:
Shift Notice: continuity phase reopened.
No logo. No time. No signature.
Bell read the notice and looked up from the floor.
"There is always a reason to reopen this early," she said.
Elise connected the notice timestamp with hearing footage from the same hour.
One frame had a person-shaped pause at Annex Corridor B.
The audio in that frame had no voice.
Priya checked room sensor logs and matched the pulse to one of the hidden route IDs.
No witness had moved the shift.
Elise filed a supplemental motion and asked for a written explanation from admin.
Admin replied with one phrase:
Continuity required by room status.
In court, she asked if room status can force reopening without a human.
No one answered directly.
She replayed the old minute from chapter 148 where a queue had replaced audio.
The judge interrupted and requested side-channel verification.
Priya showed a chain with one mismatch:
shift notice existed in legal archive but not in operational log.
Elise wrote:
A notice with no source is a command with no permission.
At night, she turned off all phone notifications and sat in silence.
The first hour passed with no messages.
Then one:
We can reopen only the first truth.
She put it in a sealed folder and did not respond.
