Chapter 188
The Courthouse Pause
The hearing began with a pause that had no reason in the schedule.
Eight minutes.
Elise watched the timer and told Bell she had seen this rhythm in the queue scripts.
The courtroom feed showed one warning:
pause for owner assignment.
No owner was assigned.
Priya checked system logs and found two contradictory states:
active and closed.
active on legal queue.
closed on courtroom process.
Elise stood in the hallway and called the court tech.
He said the pause was normal.
She asked for the command file.
No command file.
Only one script with no ID.
Bell said the script lived in the same block as the hidden queue update.
In the court room, they projected the script text:
if owner_unknown then pause(8m).
if owner_still_unknown then continue_queue()
The judge frowned.
Elise read the next line with her full voice:
No one is paused for justice here. They're paused for continuity.
At midnight, the courthouse systems auto-removed the pause and replaced it with closed.
Priya said this was one second before a key testimony moved in from a backup source.
Elise kept one screenshot on her screen until sleep.
