Chapter 93
The Uncertain Name
Helen called at dawn.
"The hearing panel wants the owner name as a legal placeholder."
Elise asked, "Placeholder."
"Administrative alias. Could be one person, one office, one contract."
Mara said, "Then we force true name."
Bell had the old contractor list and highlighted one alias: A. Voss.
Priya said, "That looks like Adrian's initials."
Elise didn't answer. She only looked at the line where a signature looked too perfect.
At noon, the hearing room took a sealed position.
Elise submitted:
- chain reset anomaly
- missing witness face flag
- owner alias request.
The panel asked Bell directly:
"Did you knowingly file with alias owner?"
Bell: "No. It was already in chain."
The panel asked Priya:
"Can alias be a legal person?"
Priya: "No, not without identity evidence."
Mara said, "Then alias should fail process."
Outside, a text from unknown:
**Some names are written to survive appeal.
Elise said to herself: Then we write the next name to fail appeal?
Priya suggested include one extra affidavit from public records archivist.
Elise sent Bell to get that.
In the stairwell at home, she found one final note taped to a lamp:
Name with no face is not a name.
She copied it into her notebook.
The hearing took no final action, but the owner alias was flagged for legal response.
Elise walked to the bridge at night and watched the water pass under.
For once, no one called.
No one had to.
