Chapter 97
The New Hearing Line
The new hearing line was one page and no ceremony.
It placed Elise, Bell, Priya, and Mara not as opposing parties but as sequence holders.
Helen said, "You are now line witnesses."
Elise repeated that phrase, because it finally gave shape:
sequence holders.
Priya read the owner challenge one more time and corrected one number: 11:17 became 11:17:05.
The panel asked no dramatic questions.
One clerk asked, "What is your final requested order?"
Elise answered:
Name the room's controlling owner, release manual logs, restore witness refusal protections.
Bell said, "And public correction notice."
Mara added, "And route split warning controls."
The panel accepted and gave a brief internal ruling:
Preliminary correction granted.
Elise looked at that line and felt the old relief and new fear.
No one cheered.
After the hearing, they walked out in the rain and found one small card on the stair.
Line holds when no one leaves it alone.
Priya kept it.
At the studio, they turned on one old radio and listened to the city updates.
The anchor said a private hearing correction process had been ordered in one local case; no details yet.
Mara said, "That's our case."
Elise sent one text to all four team members:
We move from survival mode to correction mode.
The reply came from unknown:
Do not close the line.
She answered by not sending.
