The Woman in Cabin 12

Ch. 133 - The Quiet Hour

Chapter 133

The Quiet Hour

The quiet hour was a room without sound.

Claire entered alone. No voices followed. No machines hummed. The floor was covered with white sand, and a single chair faced a blank wall.

She sat.

For the first time since the woman appeared in Cabin 12, no one asked her to remember.

The silence became uncomfortable.

Then it became hers.

Claire thought of Lena without the coat. Without the recordings. Without the archive's face. She remembered her sister laughing with soup on her chin, refusing to apologize for being alive.

The wall displayed one question.

WHAT REMAINS WHEN NO ONE IS WATCHING?

Claire answered, “A person.”

The room did not respond.

She waited.

The wall changed.

WHO WITNESSES THE ANSWER?

Claire looked at the empty chair beside her.

“I do.”

The room opened.

Mara stood on the other side, but she did not enter.

“You can leave,” Mara said.

Claire stood. “Are you coming?”

“Not yet.”

“Why?”

“Because I still want you to save me.”

Claire understood the cost of refusing.

“Then I will not.”

Mara smiled sadly.

“Good.”

The door closed between them.

Claire returned to the court.

Mara's file had moved to the private column.
