Room Sixteen was a bank vault.
Inside were no accounts, only keys. Every key opened a house, a file, or a memory held by Continuity Holdings.
The patients took the keys connected to them.
Claire found one marked LENA.
Mara found one marked MARISOL.
Neither opened a door.
The vault asked, WHOSE KEY IS IT?
Claire answered, “The person who chooses the door.”
The keys turned to paper.
