Chapter 147
The Market of Memories
Room Nineteen was a market.
Buyers walked between stalls labeled grief, inheritance, custody, and insurance. Each seller offered a memory that would make a legal decision easier.
Claire recognized the buyers from the Foundation board.
“This is not a clinic,” Daniel said.
“It is the reason the clinic existed,” Mara answered.
At the center, Everett sold a memory of Claire signing the first witness form.
Claire took it from him.
“This is not for sale.”
The market went silent.
Every buyer demanded a refund.
The stalls collapsed.
Room Twenty opened behind the counter.
