The Clinic That Remained
The clinic had been demolished, but its first room remained.
The walls were covered in names. Some were crossed out. Some were circled. One name was written in every handwriting.
Everett Bell.
The room replayed his first promise.
“No one will have to remember alone.”
Claire watched the promise become a contract, then a trust, then a business.
“He believed the lie,” Mara said.
“He used it anyway.”
The clinic lights went out.
On the floor appeared a final door marked ROOM THIRTY-NINE.
