It did not ask her to sign. It did not ask her to choose. It asked her to write what happened.

Claire wrote about the woman in Cabin 12, the lake, the clinic, and the people who had been called models because no one wanted to hear them speak.

She wrote the harm Mara caused. She wrote the harm she caused. She wrote the harm that could not be assigned to one person.

At the bottom, she wrote:

No one owns this record.

The page turned black.

The door closed.

Outside, the lake became quiet.
