The closed record had three locks.
One for evidence. One for privacy. One for consequence.
The court could close the first. The person could close the second. No one could close the third.
Claire placed the public files behind the evidence lock.
Mara placed her letter behind privacy.
The consequence lock remained open.
“Who carries it?” Wren asked.
“The people who made the choices,” Claire said.
“And the people who benefited?”
“Them too.”
The lock accepted the answer.
