The Room That Was Not There Again
The room behind Claire's kitchen wall held no machine.
It held a chair and a window.
Outside was the lake.
Lena stood on the other side of the glass.
“You built a room for me,” Claire said.
“You built it for yourself.”
“I am done witnessing.”
“Then witness that.”
Claire opened the window.
The lake was ordinary.
Lena was gone.
Room Seventy-Six opened in the morning.
