Chapter 137
Changing Their Mind at the Last Minute
That day, Paige Nolan had happened to be reeling from betrayal and was in the heat of anger. Later, after being scolded by her mother-in-law and coaxed for a while by Dr. Nolan Pierce, she changed her mind.
She knew that Claire Bennett had learned about Dr. Nolan Pierce taking benefits from Naomi Pierce, and she was afraid Claire Bennett would expose Dr. Nolan Pierce, so she had come specifically to beg Claire Bennett.
Watching Paige Nolan cry and plead with tears streaming down her face, Claire Bennett lowered her eyes slightly, conflict flashing through her heart.
For a moment, she wanted to agree to Paige Nolan's request.
But if she didn't expose this matter, the one who would suffer would be herself. This time Naomi Pierce had come at her aggressively; it wasn't as simple as ruining her reputation. She wanted to accuse her of intentional injury and send her to prison.
If she softened for a moment, she would have to bear all the consequences.
Thinking of this, Claire Bennett's heart firmed up once more.
Paige Nolan was a pitiful woman, but Paige Nolan's misery wasn't caused by her. There was no need for her to agree because of that.
Claire Bennett's expression turned cold, and she said flatly, "Sorry, I can't agree to that request. You need to think about your husband, and I need to think about myself. If you really want to help him, then you should persuade him to turn himself in!"
"You!" Paige Nolan choked with anger.
Although she couldn't stop Claire Bennett's actions, when she thought about how Claire Bennett had no evidence at all and had only heard her confession, she didn't need to worry that Claire Bennett could actually do anything.
With that thought in mind, Paige Nolan turned and left.
Looking at Paige Nolan's departing figure, Claire Bennett let out a faint sigh. At that moment, her admiration for Julian Sterling reached its peak. How was he so uncannily good at predicting things?
Just as Claire Bennett sat there looking glum, the hospital room door opened again.
Julian Sterling had come.
He was wearing a suit, his long legs wrapped in dress pants, and he looked handsome and striking, impossible to look away from.
Julian Sterling saw Claire Bennett on the hospital bed. She was sitting there with her head lowered, looking somewhat downcast.
He strode toward Claire Bennett. "What's wrong?"
Claire Bennett sighed and said gloomily, "Paige Nolan came by just now. You were right. She really did regret it. She was just begging me not to expose this."
Julian Sterling raised a brow and said, "The recording you wanted has been obtained."
Hearing that, all of Claire Bennett's sadness instantly vanished.
"You mean it?" She looked at Julian Sterling in delighted surprise.
"Mm."
Julian Sterling took out his phone and pulled up an audio file.
Claire Bennett tapped it and listened for a moment, and found that it was a phone call between Naomi Pierce and Dr. Nolan Pierce.
Maybe because there was no one around them, they were discussing having Dr. Nolan Pierce issue Naomi Pierce a report saying that a miscarriage had caused uterine damage, so they could pin down the charge when the time came.
After listening to the recording, Claire Bennett couldn't help cursing furiously in her heart.
Naomi Pierce was absolutely shameless!
But for a woman who could use her future child to scheme up something like this, how could anyone expect her to have any shame?
Now that she had this recording, Claire Bennett felt even more confident.
It was all thanks to Julian Sterling. If he hadn't helped get the surveillance footage and also gotten the recording proving Naomi Pierce had faked her pregnancy, she would probably still be trapped in this mess right now.
It had to be said, Julian Sterling was just too formidable, too incredible!
Seeing the look of admiration in Claire Bennett's eyes, Julian Sterling found it immensely gratifying.
Everything he had done had not been in vain.
Julian Sterling asked, "Should I handle your discharge today?"
"Okay, then I'll pack up my things." Claire Bennett had no objections and nodded at once.
She had stayed in the first place because she wanted to get the evidence. Now that she had everything in hand, there was no need to keep staying and waste the hospital's resources.
Julian Sterling nodded, his eyes flickering slightly.
During the time Claire Bennett had been staying in the hospital, his house had also been prepared, so it was the perfect time to take her and move over there together.
Julian Sterling said casually, "I found a new place. We're moving."
"Huh? Moving where?" Claire Bennett asked in surprise.
She knew the address of their previous apartment had already been exposed, and it would be rather dangerous to keep living there, but the sudden move still caught her off guard.
Julian Sterling took out a key and said, "It's already been arranged. Marcus Reed has a place he can rent to us, right near Sterling International."
With her concern resolved, Claire Bennett didn't ask further and said directly, "That's great. Then let's go."
The two of them completed the discharge procedures.
When Julian Sterling drove into an upscale residential complex, Claire Bennett couldn't help exclaiming in amazement.
Marcus Reed's place was actually in Parkview Heights. This was a Sterling Group property. Because it was located in Chicago's business district, where land was worth a fortune, even having money didn't necessarily mean you could buy a place there. She never expected Marcus Reed to be hiding his wealth so well!
Claire Bennett clicked her tongue in wonder and said, "Marcus Reed is that rich? Doesn't he still have a whole family to support? I heard the homes here are really hard to buy..."
