Chapter 144
Who Exactly Did Claire Bennett End Up With?
Her only enemies were Ethan Sterling, that ex-boyfriend, and Naomi Pierce, that white-lotus ex-best friend. Was the person behind them someone they sent to follow her?
Claire Bennett felt a little frustrated. Could it be that after losing yesterday's court hearing, the two of them just couldn't accept it?
Julian Sterling drove straight into Parkview Heights.
The car behind them was stopped by security and told that only residents were allowed in.
The people in that car had been hired by Ethan Sterling to investigate Claire Bennett. They had taken quite a few photos just now, but none of them had caught the man in the driver's seat.
After trailing her all the way here, they had no way to follow her inside.
Left with no choice, they took out their phones and called Ethan Sterling.
"Manager Sterling, we followed her to Parkview Heights just now. Claire Bennett's car drove straight in, and we were stopped outside."
On the other end of the phone, Ethan Sterling's face darkened. He said impatiently, "Got it. Keep watch there and don't leave until she comes out!"
Parkview Heights was a property development under Sterling Group, so of course he knew the place. Back when he first came to work there, he had wanted to ask Julian Sterling for an apartment, only to be told they were all sold out and there were no extras.
And now Claire Bennett had gotten in there. Just what kind of man had she latched onto?
It seemed the only way to find out the truth was to start with the residents of Parkview Heights.
Ethan Sterling's eyes burned with resentment as he sank into a stubborn obsession. He just had to know who exactly Claire Bennett was with.
After her car entered Parkview Heights, Claire Bennett glanced into the rearview mirror. Only when she saw the people tailing her being stopped behind them did she finally let out a sigh of relief.
It looked like living somewhere upscale really did mean much better security. At least there wouldn't be disgusting incidents like what Kevin Parker had done before.
Not long after Claire Bennett went in, the men in black waiting at the gate saw a luxury car enter Parkview Heights. They immediately recognized who it belonged to.
"That's Mr. Quinn's car! Could Claire Bennett's man be Cameron Quinn?"
The two looked at each other for a long moment before saying, "Call Manager Sterling, now."
When Ethan Sterling got the call and heard that the person who entered Parkview Heights after Claire Bennett was Cameron Quinn, his expression changed instantly, and disbelief appeared on his face.
Cameron Quinn? It was actually Cameron Quinn!
The man Claire Bennett had attached herself to was the eldest son of the Quinn family?
Before, he hadn't cared much about Sean Shaw and the Shaw family, but Cameron Quinn was different!
The Quinn family was a wealthy clan that stood on equal footing with the Sterling family, and Cameron Quinn, as the future head of the Quinn family, had an extraordinary identity and status.
No wonder Claire Bennett had been able to get so many things!
No wonder she could move into Parkview Heights!
So it was all because of Cameron Quinn!
Ethan Sterling felt stifled and unwilling to accept it. Hearing this news felt just as awful as hearing that Claire Bennett had found Julian Sterling. He was so furious he was about to explode.
Then he forced himself to calm down, his eyes slowly narrowing.
It might not be Cameron Quinn. The Quinn family had strict rules—how could they possibly let him fool around? Maybe it was just a coincidence that they lived in the same development.
He still needed to investigate this matter carefully!
...
The doorbell rang at Claire Bennett's apartment, and she immediately ran from the kitchen to open the door.
Standing outside was Ruby Sterling.
Holding up two big bags of fruit, cake, and other things, she said with a bright smile, "Ta-da... I'm here! To celebrate your move, I bought a ton of stuff."
Claire Bennett took the things from her hands and pulled her inside, saying, "Come in quickly. Go watch some TV first. Dinner will be ready any minute."
She hadn't expected Ruby Sterling, this pampered young heiress who had never lifted a finger around the house, to be able to help with anything, so she sent her straight to the living room too.
When Ruby Sterling walked into the living room, she saw two people sitting on the sofa, and one of them was extremely familiar.
Her eyes widened in surprise. "Cameron Quinn! Why are you here?"
Hearing Ruby Sterling's voice, Mr. Quinn, lounging lazily against the sofa, lifted his eyes to look over. The corner of his mouth curved slightly as he said casually, "Julian's moving, so naturally I had to come celebrate too."
In truth, Julian Sterling had known Ruby Sterling was coming and had deliberately called him over, so it wouldn't interfere with his alone time with Claire Bennett and he could also conveniently help out his good buddy.
Ruby Sterling muttered, "Weren't you in New York?"
Cameron Quinn lowered his eyes, hiding the emotion in them. "I'm planning to stay in Chicago."
The truth was, wherever Ruby Sterling was, that was where he would be.
Ruby Sterling didn't think much of it. She walked over and sat down beside Julian Sterling. "Fine. You're my brother's good friend, so if the two of you are together, you can look out for each other."
All of a sudden, Ruby Sterling realized that the three of them were all sitting here waiting for Claire Bennett while Claire Bennett was the only one busy in the kitchen. Wasn't that a little too much?
She slapped her thighs and stood up, saying, "I'm going to help Claire."
But before she could even get to her feet, Julian Sterling pushed her back down.
"Don't make trouble. Stay here and wait. I'll go."
Make trouble? How was helping out making trouble?
Just as Ruby Sterling was about to argue, Julian Sterling gave her a bland look. "Forgot the time you tried to heat milk and blew up the kitchen?"
Ruby Sterling: "..."
Did he really have to bring up something that ancient?
Especially with outsiders here—did she get to keep any dignity at all?
Cameron Quinn wasn't surprised. He just looked at Ruby Sterling and laughed softly, his eyes full of indulgence.
Julian Sterling left the two of them behind and opened the kitchen door.
Claire Bennett's slender figure was busy at work, carrying a warm, lived-in domestic feeling. Julian Sterling thought the scene before him was incredibly beautiful, so much so that he was a little reluctant to disturb it.
Hearing the sound, Claire Bennett turned around. "Why did you come in?"
"To help."
Even though Julian Sterling had broken a bowl the last time he helped with chores, the fact that he had come over on his own to help still made Claire Bennett feel warm inside.
A man like this really was off the charts when it came to charm.
