Chapter 181
Touring Parkview Heights
Recently, there had been a lot of work at Sterling International, and Julian Sterling had started getting busy.
Every day there were countless meetings, and on top of that, there were all the complicated matters over in New York. Julian Sterling no longer had time to act as Claire Bennett's driver.
Before getting off work that day, Claire Bennett received a message from Julian Sterling. He said he needed to work late tonight and had already asked Marcus Reed to drive her back.
Although Claire Bennett was fairly familiar with Marcus Reed, she still felt it was a little strange for another man to drive her home. She quickly turned him down, saying she would just take a cab back herself and that she needed to stop to buy groceries on the way. Julian Sterling didn't insist.
At quitting time, Claire Bennett walked to the roadside and had just taken out her phone to call a rideshare when a car stopped in front of her.
The window slowly rolled down, revealing the handsome face of the man in the driver's seat.
"Sean?" Claire Bennett said in surprise.
Hadn't he gone back to New York? Why had he suddenly shown up in Chicago again? And why was he waiting for her at the company entrance?
Sean Shaw grumbled, "You're finally off work. I waited for you for an hour! Get in already."
Claire Bennett opened the door and got in, and the car quickly drove away.
In the car, Claire Bennett asked Sean Shaw why he had come.
At that, Sean Shaw rolled his eyes at her and snorted. "My mom told me to help you out more, so this time she sent me to Chicago on a business trip."
In reality, he was there to discuss a company partnership with Julian Sterling.
Sean Shaw still hadn't completely taken over the Shaw family's business. Shaw Group was basically still being run by Mr. Shaw, and Sean was learning by assisting at his side, so this matter should have been handled by Mr. Shaw.
But because of Claire Bennett, Mrs. Shaw had kicked Sean Shaw over to Chicago. He could only come look for Claire Bennett in miserable resignation, but he had misjudged the timing and ended up waiting pointlessly outside Sterling International for an hour.
After hearing that, Claire Bennett nodded repeatedly and said with a smile, "Auntie is seriously the best. She's helped me a lot from the past until now. When I have time, I really need to thank her properly."
"Enough. As long as you're doing well, she's at ease."
Speaking of that, Sean Shaw's eyes shifted and he asked, "Oh right, how are things with Julian Sterling? Didn't you say last time you were going to pursue him? Did you get him yet?"
"No." Claire Bennett shook her head.
Sean Shaw showed a look of disgust and said with total disdain, "How are you this useless? You can't even chase a man right!"
Claire Bennett huffed and said, "And you have the nerve to talk about me! Last time when Shiyi was mad at you, did you smooth things over yourself? Wasn't it only because I helped that you two made up? If you're so amazing, then why couldn't you win her back on your own?"
Sean Shaw had his embarrassing past exposed to his face by Claire Bennett, so he stopped showing off.
He said, "Let's go eat first. You can call Julian Sterling too while you're at it."
Sean Shaw was thinking that before talking business, he ought to butter Julian Sterling up a little more. Maybe then their contract negotiations would go a bit more smoothly.
But Claire Bennett shook her head and said, "He has to work late and doesn't have time. Let's just go by ourselves."
Hearing that Julian Sterling couldn't come, Sean Shaw immediately looked uninterested.
So there went his chance to start sucking up to his future cousin-in-law ahead of time.
All of a sudden, Sean Shaw thought of something and asked, "Didn't you say last time that you'd moved into Parkview Heights? That development is really famous, and I've been curious about it. Let me go take a look."
He also wanted to buy property in Chicago, and the first place he naturally considered was Parkview Heights, the top-tier development jointly built by Sterling Group and Quinn Group. But to his surprise, he'd been told he didn't qualify to buy there, and it had left him itching with curiosity.
He really wanted to see just how good it was. If it turned out to be excellent, then after Claire Bennett got Julian Sterling, he could go suck up to his future cousin-in-law and ask him to pull some strings for him.
Claire Bennett did not refuse. She nodded and said, "Sure. Then let's just eat something simple at home. No need to eat out."
After saying that, she had Sean Shaw drive to the market to buy groceries.
Sean Shaw could only resign himself to being the hardworking, uncomplaining chauffeur.
Neither of them knew that from the moment Claire Bennett got into the car, a low-profile vehicle had been quietly following behind them.
The Sterling International president's office.
Looking out from the huge office, everything around was pitch-black, with only the city's streams of traffic still visible.
Julian Sterling was in the middle of dealing with a mountain of complicated work when the office door suddenly opened and two unexpected people appeared before him.
He showed a look of surprise, clearly caught off guard that those two had appeared together.
It really was surprising enough that Ruby Sterling and Cameron Quinn would be together.
He asked flatly, "Why are you here?"
Ruby Sterling didn't look too good. She secretly glanced at Cameron Quinn, nudged him with her elbow, then lightly moved her lips. Her mouth seemed to be saying: You say it.
Cameron Quinn, on the other hand, wasn't nearly as nervous. Calm and unhurried, he slowly walked over to the reception sofa in the back and then plopped down on it.
Then Cameron Quinn took out his phone and idly toyed with it in his hand.
He lifted his eyes to Julian Sterling and said with a light smile, "Just now I got an anonymous tip saying my woman was fooling around with another man and telling me to go catch them in the act. Pretty interesting, isn't it?"
Julian Sterling frowned slightly when he heard that.
Cameron Quinn's woman had cheated on him—what did that have to do with him? Was he here to ask him to go along?
When had he gotten a woman? Did he not want to be his brother-in-law anymore?
Julian Sterling said, "Work's been pretty busy these past couple days. If you need help, I'll have Marcus Reed go with you."
Ruby Sterling couldn't listen anymore. She rolled her eyes at Cameron Quinn and said, "Oh, come on! Bro, he didn't make it clear enough. Here's what happened..."
