Chapter 194
Drafting the Divorce Agreement
Ruby Sterling hadn't even finished speaking when her phone started vibrating violently.
She took it out and glanced at it, only to see that Julian Sterling was calling. Afraid something might be wrong, Ruby didn't dare decline the call. She said to Claire Bennett, "Claire, wait a second. I'm going to take this call."
After saying that, Ruby walked off to the side to answer the phone.
"Hello, Julian, why are you calling me?"
There was silence on the other end for a moment, then Julian Sterling's somewhat hoarse voice came through as he asked, "Is she okay?"
When Julian Sterling realized late at night that Ruby wasn't home, he knew she had definitely gone to see Claire Bennett.
He clearly shouldn't have asked, yet he still couldn't hold back. He wanted to know how Claire Bennett was doing right now.
Ruby secretly glanced back and said, "Uh... she's okay, I guess. Nothing's wrong."
After hearing Ruby's words, Julian Sterling said nothing. The line fell quiet, with only the sound of heavy breathing left on the other end.
"Hello..." Ruby thought the call had dropped.
"Hanging up." Julian Sterling dropped those two words and ended the call directly.
Listening to the beeping in her ear, Ruby felt a little bewildered. In the end, she could only sigh helplessly.
Looks like her brother had fallen hard, but it was one-sided.
A wave of irritation rose in Ruby. The two of them had fought once before, but that time it had been resolved smoothly. Now it seemed different from before. Claire Bennett and Julian Sterling were serious this time. They really were going to get divorced!
She hated Paige Sterling, that aunt, to death!
She had always loved pulling all kinds of little stunts before, and now she was reaching her hands over here again. Ruby was so angry her face darkened.
But the most important thing right now was comforting Claire Bennett.
Ruby quickly put away her phone and turned back, wanting to continue talking to Claire Bennett. Unexpectedly, when she turned around and looked, she discovered that Claire Bennett had already fallen asleep on the couch!
...
The Sterling family home.
Julian Sterling had just ended the call with Ruby. Ruby had said just now that Claire Bennett was fine in every way. How had he ever thought Claire Bennett would be sad and upset because she was divorcing him?
Maybe Claire Bennett was celebrating happily right now, about to be free of that damned contract with him.
She would rather borrow money from Sean Shaw to pay the compensation than stay with him.
Julian Sterling's figure was hidden in the darkness, making him seem somewhat lonely and desolate. At that moment, the phone he had tossed onto the table lit up, especially conspicuous in the dark.
He reached out and picked it up to take a look.
Old Master Sterling calling.
He had wanted to reject it, but in the end Julian Sterling still swiped to answer. "Grandpa."
"Julian Sterling! I heard from your aunt that you actually went and married that woman behind everyone's back! And you even refused your aunt's help? I sent your aunt to Chicago to help because I thought you couldn't handle this kind of matter. Just what exactly are you trying to do!"
Old Master Sterling's furious voice came through from the other end of the phone.
It seemed that Paige Sterling had told Old Master Sterling that Julian Sterling and Claire Bennett were already married, and now Old Master Sterling was extremely angry.
"Claire Bennett and I are indeed legally married."
It had originally been Ruby's prank, but now the one stuck in the mire and unwilling to let go was him. The more Julian Sterling thought about it, the more absurdly ironic it felt.
"You really have some nerve! A woman like that—if you let her enter this family, you'll be bringing shame on the Sterling family! The lady of the Sterling family can absolutely not be that kind of woman! I think you're really a bastard—"
Before Old Master Sterling could finish speaking, Julian Sterling cut him off.
He said in a deep voice, "We're getting divorced. Just now, I already had Marcus Reed draft the divorce agreement."
Hearing this, Old Master Sterling calmed down.
He let out a cold snort and said, "Good! I'll trust you one last time."
After saying that, Old Master Sterling ended the call.
